Rawlings Tigers Icon

LF Jake Rich (Jacobs, 2028)
An athletic and speedy 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame. Rich gave a good look with the bat and glove Friday afternoon. The lefty collected a triple and double with a simple contact approach in the box. He sets up with a wide base and gets his hands in a spot that creates a direct and flare path that works through the ball. Rich has excellent speed, able to stretch singles into doubles and doubles into triples. Although impressing with the bat, Rich caught eyes with the glove. Early in the game, he took away extra bases with a sliding play on a line drive slicing away from him. Showing excellent speed and range in left, would have no problem controlling the outfield in center.

C Alex Mayzer (Burlington Central, 2029)
Standing in as a powerful, 6-foot, 165-pound frame with a defined lower-half, Mayzer caught eyes during his Friday afternoon game. Ending his day going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, and a hard line out to right field, Mayzer was on the barrel all game long. The righty sets up with a wide base with rhythm in the hands, and an easy, powerful swing led by quick hands getting the barrel to the ball. The power came easily as he one-hopped the wall at MATC. Behind the dish, Mayzer was solid with strong throws on a line with a 2.17 pop in between innings.

Striking out 11 batters through seven innings pitched. Looked the part at the plate as well, all over the barrel this weekend. With a three-hit day Thursday morning, where he doubled to his pull side, singled to both right and left, and added two stolen bases on the day as well. Good barrel control and quick hands at the plate with a whole field approach, an athlete that still has potential to add strength, and a name to look out for in the future.

At the plate, Cunningham has a quiet toe tap with quick hands and a barrel that stays through the zone for a long time, allowing him to consistently make hard contact.

LHP Brandt Harris (Bloomington Central Catholic, 2028)
The 5-foot-11, 178-pound left-hander impressed with his pitch ability this weekend against strong competition. Harris’s ability to consistently hit spots inside and outside with a 77-79 mph fastball with arm-side run allowed him to thrive against a tough lineup. Another key to Harris’s success was pairing his fastball with a 63-65 mph curveball, keeping hitters off balance. Harris’s pitch ability makes him an arm to follow.

RHP Blake Harris (Gridley, 2028)
A 6-foot-6, 200-pound frame, the right-hander is an athletic mover down the mound. Harris has a ¾ arm slot with a short, controlled arm. Harris’ extension down the mound makes his 78-82 mph fastball with ride difficult to hit. He also flashed a 66 mph curveball.

SS/RHP Kanon Baxley (Kaneland, 2028)
The No. 7 player in Illinois’ 2028 class, Baxley, would showcase one of the nation’s more promising two-way profiles throughout the weekend. On the mound, the right-handed arm would get the Saturday start for his squad, throwing three innings, only allowing one earned run while collecting six strikeouts. With one of the most advanced breaking balls in the 2028 class, Baxley’s curveball would sit in the low-70s with 2600-2800 rpm throughout the outing, but has seen as high as 3279 rpm in prior showcase settings. Additionally, the rising sophomore’s fastball would sit at an easy 83-86 mph. A loose, quick arm, Baxley should only become better as he adds more strength and polish to his profile on the mound. As a position player, he also showed a quality right-handed bat with an above-average feel for the barrel and some present bat speed. An asset defensively at shortstop, he would also show confident footwork and advanced arm strength for the position. Athletic 5-foot-9, 159-pound frame.

Top Tier North 2028s

2B Alex Govoni (Loyola, Academy, 2028)
A strong well well-proportioned, 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame, Govoni was on the barrel all game long Saturday afternoon. The right-handed hitter was making loud outs with a hard ground ball and line out, not finding his first hit until his third at-bat when he launched a ball over the left-field fence. Setting up in the box, it’s a simple swing with a wide base, toe tap load, but the hands work strong and fast, staying compact and working through the ball. Govoni has present strength and feel for the barrel in the box, making him one of the names to know in the Illinois class of 2028.

On the barrel all day long, Friday was a lean, long-levered, 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, Johann Lasn. The right-handed hitter ended his day 3-for-3 with a triple and two singles. He was working the whole field with the triple coming on a line drive over the center fielder's head, and an opposite field line drive which drove in a run. Setting up with a wide, closed-off stance, a small two-tap load, with quick hands that create a direct path working through the ball.

Windy City

RF Dominic Feliciano (St. Patrick, 2028)
Feliciano started his weekend off hot, going 4-for-4 with four singles in Windy City’s first game of the weekend. The right-hander tossed six innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out seven. On the mound, Carzoil has confidence attacking hitters and working ahead. With an easy fluid motion, followed by a loose, clean arm action from a lower ¾ slot, the righty grabs velo with low effort. The fastball was sitting 80-82mph, playing well at the top of the zone, while the slider was 70-72mph with sweep and slight depth, missing barrels. Carzoil set himself apart from the rest and made his name known as a follow through the Illinois class of 2028.

RHP/3B Brady Jones (Metarmora, 2028)
A high-waisted, long-levered 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame, Jones was a standout on the mound during his Friday night start. The right-hander tossed five and ⅔ hitless innings, striking out seven while only walking two.
