WIAA State Finals: Day Three Recaps

No. 1 New Berlin Eisenhower vs. No. 4 Reedsburg

Reedsburg would score early in the top of the first on a RBI double from INF Greame Pelton (2025) scoring INF Winston Alonso (2026) who reached on an error.

In the bottom of the third inning, New Berlin Eisenhower would answer back with a leadoff double for INF Caleb Johns (2026) and a single for OF Carter Hollenback (2025) which would set up a sacrifice fly off the bat of RHP/INF Sam Hirthe (2025).

Eisenhower would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth, after loading the bases Hirthe would drive in two on a single to center field giving the Lions the lead.

LHP Cal Schneider (2027) would take his start into the seventh inning striking out eight across 6.2 innings before being taken out due to pitch count and Hirthe would come on in relief and record the final out sending the Lions to the State Finals tomorrow.

No. 3 Seymour vs. No. 2 Aquinas

After a scoreless first inning, Seymour gets on the board first in the top of the second inning. INF Brandon Poch (2025) reaches on a base hit, steals second, and scores on an RBI single for UTL Brady Poch (2025).

Aquinas answers back in the bottom half of the second inning. A leadoff double for Isaac Schelfhout, a wild pitch, a walk for RHP/INF Waylon Hargrove (2026), and a stolen base has runners on second and third. A wild pitch by the defense allows both runners to advance, Schelfhout scoring on the play. A OF Ryan Johnson (2026) sacrifice fly brings in Hargrove.

Seymour would tie the game in the top of the third inning, with two singles to start the inning, first from Colten Nieland, and next by UTL Cayden Staffeldt (2026). After a runner is caught stealing, an UTL/RHP Xavier Salzman (2026) hit by pitch, and a Poch walk load the bases for the Thunder. A walk to C Micah Byers (2026) allows a run to score and tie the game.

After getting held scoreless in the fourth inning, Seymour would take the lead in the top of the fifth on a base hit by OF Carson Staffeldt (2026) to put the Thunder up by one.

Seymour would add to the lead in the top of the fifth scoring two runs on a bases loaded single by UTL/RHP Xavier Salzman (2026) to left field.

Nieland would toss the final two inning in relief, striking out two the final two batters of the game to seal the win for Seymour as they advance to the State Finals on Thursday.
