Prep Baseball Report

2025 CHSAA Players of the Week: April 21-26

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

Each week during the high school season, the Prep Baseball Colorado staff will be announcing our 'Player of the Week' award for that particular week. Numerous players from across the state continue to perform and put up numbers on a week-to-week basis, though only one athlete can take home the 'hitter' or 'pitcher' award each week. Below you'll see which players have earned our 'Player of the Week' honors this spring season.

NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches and others from around our state. If you are a interested in nominating a player, please contact Marc Wagner ([email protected]).

CHSAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: APRIL 21-26

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Sawyer Brinkman C / RHP / Golden, CO / 2025

Brinkman continues to dominate on the mound as the senior tossed a 5 inning (run-rule shortened) perfect game with 12 strikeouts against Standley Lake and then followed it up with 7 more innings against Pomona when he struckout 11 batters with zero earned runs, just one hit, and two walks allowed. The full week 7 line on Brinkman came in at 12 innings with 23 Ks, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 walks, and 2 wins. Brinkman comes with plenty of pitchability and deception and was also the starter for Golden to knock off Eaton earlier this spring. The Prep Baseball Colorado staff has seen Brinkman up to 87 mph with a quality curveball and changeup combination.

HITTER OF THE WEEK:

Ethan Gentz 2B / OF / Falcon, CO / 2026

Gentz had a perfect week 7 where he failed to record an out at the plate. The uncommitted junior went 7 for 7 with a HR, 4 doubles, 5 RBI, and a stolen base against The Classical Academy and Cheyenne Mountain. The versatile and strong athlete is one of the hottest hitters in the state right now (4A) and has gotten his overall numbers up to a .500 BA with 2 HR, 9 2B, and a 1.408 OPS across 45 plate appearances this season. In the past, we have seen Gentz up to a 96.1 mph top exit velocity with an 85 mph outfield and an 82 mph infield throwing velocity in events.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Zack Young, Jacob Olson, Isaac Low, Brayden Millikan, Brody Montemayor, Jerry Stone, Luc Gaca Thiele, Fabian Gaeta
