2025 WA Scout Blog - Kentlake, Federal Way, Kennedy Catholic, Auburn Riverside
April 17, 2025
The 2025 Washington Scout Blog provides information and scouting notes from Prep Baseball staff during the WIAA sesason. The running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and other notable performers. The Scout Blog is compiled of content and information gathered only from Prep Baseball staff. All featured games in the Scout Blog were attended by staff.
This week, Prep Baseball staff attended multiple matchups featuring teams off to hot starts this spring. Several high end prospects showed out well, and players with D-1 commitments stole the show in both games. Below are scouting notes on standout prospects from the two games.
Kentlake vs. Federal Way (4.15.25)
Kentlake
'26 RHP/INF Christopher Moore (Washington Commit)
Moore got the start on the mound and dominated as expected, finishing the night with 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 13 K overall. Attacked the zone for the most part on the edges with the FB, utilizing the SL to the top of the order that was sharp at times. Natural cutting action with the FB as seen in previous looks. Generated plenty of swing and miss. The junior also went 2-3 with a BB and an RBI at the plate, with bat speed through the zone and balance throughout. Mostly stuck to the pull side, extending to meet the ball out front with a shorter hand path. A long-time top ten junior continued to look the part, and will be looked at to see if his stuff can make even further jumps as the weather continues to warm.

'25 1B/LHP Devin Tep (Centralia College Commit)
Lefty has thrown well in 13 innings on the mound so far this spring, but showed his versatility at the plate on Tuesday. Among the most productive Falcons, going 2-3, R, BB, 3 RBI from the middle of the order. Loose wrists with some classic LH loft in the swing. Tall, lean frame with some athleticism present, made the plays needed at 1B in limited action.

'25 RHP/INF Juan Hernandez (Tacoma CC Commit)
Senior impacted the game throughout and helped secure the victory, throwing a hitless 7th inning on the mound. Smooth, lower-slot release gave some life on a low-80's heater up in the zone. Reached base twice, including a 2 RBI single in what was a big 4th inning for Kentlake offensively. Scored a run and walked, showcasing a mature, experienced game. Corner-INF type with enough arm to stick at 3B at the HS level.
FINAL: Kentlake 9, Federal Way 0

'28 INF Lincoln Moore (Uncommitted)
One of the top freshman in the PNW and a player that is already getting some national buzz, the younger Moore looked comfortable in what was Prep Baseball's first look at him in varsity high school action. Ultra-smooth defensive actions in INF/OF despite hardly getting any reps in-game. Soft hands and a 6'2 frame that moves well and can stick up the middle. Saw very few pitches to hit at the plate, but did reach on a walk and HBP and scored 2 runs. Rotates quickly through the zone with a tight turn and bat speed present. Exciting follow in years to come.
Federal Way
'25 RHP/INF Orlando Young (Washington Commit)
Senior and UW commit picked up one of two hits on what was a quiet night for the Eagles offense. Young continued to look the part of a top-10 ranked player in his respective state class, with leadership skills and arm strength standing out. Stayed back just long enough on an offspeed pitch to drop in his lone hit, showcasing a simpler approach with a short hand path. RHP has been dominating competion this spring, though he did not toe the mound in this look. Impact player.

Top-10 ranked senior in the state showcased smooth defensive actions and a strong arm at SS. Stays back just enough to find the barrel on an offspeed pitch here… pic.twitter.com/BVj1lMhwqr
'25 INF Thoma Holden (Bellevue College Commit)
Senior has been a key bat for the Eagles at the top of the order this spring, and despite going hitless in this look has been productive. Longer, smooth RH stroke with a slightly uphill barrel path through the zone. Shut down from throwing currently due to injury, but looks the part of a player that could see success at the next level.
Kennedy Catholic vs. Auburn Riverside (4.16.25)
Kennedy Catholic
'26 LHP Harvey Lieberman (Washington State Commit)
The recent D-1 commit was one half of a pitcher's duel Tuesday night, throwing 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. True starter's build with a four-pitch mix and the ability to throw strikes to both sides of the plate. FB sat 82-84 MPH from start to finish with some natural run from the lefty's 3/4 slot release. CB/SL combination was used consistently for strikes at the bottom of the zone. Changed timing with varied deliveries. Pitchability and confidence on the mound stood out throughout. 8 K's to 0 BB, in total control.

'25 OF Camden Mattingly (Linfield Football Commit)
Strong, physical multi-sport athlete reached base three times despite not hitting any balls out of the infield. Hit a couple of balls hard on the ground with a short, direct approach. Let raw strength do the work. Quick out of the box and down the line, with athleticism translating to the outfield as well. More of a corner OF type with developing arm strength. Productive night from the bottom of the order.
'26 C Ka'ipo Matsushima (Uncommitted)
After a strong look at PNW Preseason All-State, the junior catcher looked confident and composed at the dish and behind the plate. Got the most out of his medium frame with an aggressive, uphill RH stroke. Mature understanding of the strike zone, rarely expanding. Stole strikes defensively, working upward through frames and not giving up on borderline pitches down and on the edges. Impressive showing.

'25 OF/RHP Will Cahill (Washington Commit)
Potent senior bat was held quiet at the plate, but made an impact on the mound, throwing two scoreless innings to secure the victory for the Lancers. Ran the FB up to 87 MPH, though the control was hit-or-miss in this look. SL in the mid 70's was sole offspeed delivery shown. Quick-tempo delivery from both the wind and the stretch. LH swing offensively showcased his usual smoothness and natural loft.
Auburn Riverside
'26 LHP Kaeden Morgan (Uncommitted)
Lefty strike thrower in a tall, lean 6'4 frame filled up the zone and worked around traffic all night. Some deception in the delivery with a closed stride land and slight cross-body action. FB with sink sat 79-82 MPH. Dropped in all offspeed deliveries for strikes, particularly a CB early in counts at 68-70 MPH. CH with fading action at 73-75 MPH also flashed. True starter innings eater with a four-pitch mix and ability to live on the edges. Just 2 walks in 32 IP this season. Final line: 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R (1 ER), BB, 5 K.

'25 INF Andre Muneton (Uncommitted)
Senior shortstop was the star of the night offensively, going 3-3 with a BB and 2 runs scored. Loose, handsy swing stayed flat and through the zone well. Was on time for the FB and didn't miss. Some athleticism present. Smooth glove at SS with a plus arm across the diamond. Made a near-incredible leaping throw from deep in the hole as a highlight defensively. Impressive performance.

'26 INF/RHP Cameron Bain (Uncommitted)
Uncommitted junior has been a key piece for the Ravens both on the mound at at the plate, where he leads the team hitting over .360 this spring. Balanced, short-to-long swing from the RH side. Showed ability to cover the plate and adjust well. Some defensive versatility, can play multiple INF/OF spots. Righty has also logged over 30 innings on the mound with a 3 ERA.
