LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the California Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting a Hitter and Pitcher of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from around California. 

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes which will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches who are deserving of recognition but were not named Hitter/Pitcher of the Week.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

2025 RHP Zach Strickland of Maranatha High School has been named the California Pitcher of the Week after a dominating performance in a spring tournament for Maranatha. Strickland, a UCLA commit and MLB Draft prospect, has rounded into form as the Minutemen are eyeing a playoff run in the postseason.  

Maranatha traveled to the central coast to take on four teams in three days for some out of area competition with a break in the schedule. 

Strickland got the start in Game One against Lompoc and delivered a brilliant outing tossing six innings of no-hit ball before leaving the game with an 8-0 lead. He registered 14 strikeouts and issued one walk all on just 77 pitches with 60 for strikes. 

As Maranatha eyes a trip to the postseason in a few weeks, Strickland gives Maranatha a bona fide ace at the top of the rotation. Over eight starts this season, Strickland is 4-0 in 38 innings pitched. He has struck out 70 and walked 11. He’s allowed 12 hits and two earned runs and opponents are hitting .093 against him. 

We salute senior UCLA signee, Zach Strickland, for earning the Prep Baseball California Pitcher of the Week.
