Illinois 2027 Rankings Updated
April 24, 2025
With a full winter of Preseason ID events behind us, along with a few weeks of IHSA action, it is time for a much needed update to our class of 2027 rankings. Much of the names at the top remain the same, and there’s also plenty of new faces in the mix now with players making big jumps this offseason.
Continue reading below for a look at some of the notable movement throughout this update..
Top-10
Right-hander Brady Buenik (Libertyville, 2027) is taking over the top spot in the rankings after the departure of Sushi Wilson to IMG academy. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds with a durable starters build, and there's some striking similarities to a young Ryan Sloan (York, 2024; Seattle Mariners). With a fastball up to 95 from a deceptive slot, wipeout slider and above-average splitter, Buenik looks every bit of the next big arm coming through the IL pipelines.
INF/RHP Kaden Wasniewski (McHenry) remains at No. 2 in this update, while SS Jacsen Tucker (Oswego East) is climbing to No. 3 as his bat continues to trend in the right direction.
Wasniewski draws all sorts of intrigue on both sides of the ball. On the mound, he will work his fastball into the low-90s with feel to pitch and ability to throw multiple pitches for strikes. He’s also an impressive position player with loud tools and proven in-game success.
Tucker has one of the highest ceilings in the class, as he’s a premium athlete standing in at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with all sorts of room to fill out. There’s loud tools across the board with a max EV around 100 mph and 6.69 in the 60, and his glove also profiles him at shortstop at the next level with advanced actions and range.
SS/RHP Trevor McClure (Mt. Vernon) is one of the top two-ways in the midwest and he fills out our No. 4 position. He’s a premium athlete with natural actions on the infield, and there’s also a lot of upside in his right-handed swing. Not to mention he will run his fastball up to 88 mph with a curveball, slider and changeup to pair off it.
