Prep Baseball Illinois Pitcher of the Week: Austin Musso
April 29, 2025
Mascoutah is one of the top teams in southern Illinois, currently sitting on a 12-5 record while also playing in a tough Mississippi Valley Conference. One of the key pieces to their success has been Austin Musso, an Arizona State commit that has been a key piece on both sides of the ball for the Indians all season long. This past week was no different, as he helped take down a tough Highland Bulldogs team with a dominant effort on the mound. As a result of his stellar performance, Musso has been named this week’s Pitcher of the Week.
The big right-hander toed the rubber Monday afternoon and helped take down Highland by the score of 7-0, firing a complete-game shutout with only two hits allowed, 17 strikeouts and just one walk.
Currently ranked No. 14 in the state and No. 310 in the country, Musso is one of the premier names that helps make up the talented group of Metro East arms. He has long been a performer for the Indians, and his prospect status continues to rise, boasting a fastball up to 94 mph while also showing a sharp slider and fading changeup to round out his three-pitch mix. He also hits in the middle of the order and is a physical bat that is helping to lead the Indians’ offense. All in all, there’s a lot to like with Musso, and he should continue to garner some pro interest throughout the spring and beyond.
We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
