With 2024 now in the past, Prep Baseball Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage that can be found anywhere in 2025. Starting in February, we began releasing team previews for squads across the state. Ahead, we will have Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings coming your way.

2025 Spring Team Preview: Zanesville Blue Devils

Team Name: Zanesville Blue Devils
Head Coach: Jason Smith
Division: III
2024 Record: 7-19-1
2024 Tourney Finish: Sectional Finals loss to River View
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 8/4

Coach Outlook: "We still have a lot to prove. We've begun the rebuilding and molding process and we look to be more competitive in all facets of the game moving forward. We will be returning a lot of lettermen this season. We graduated a small class last season so having the majority of our guys back should help us in getting this ship turned the rest of the way around."

2025 Team Strengths:

  • Our guys play hard. We didn't get the end results we'd like last season but it wasn't because of game effort. One thing that I'm really proud of our guys for is their willingness to battle through adversity. Our guys won't quit or give up when things don't go their way. I love the way we get on and off the field, the way we treat each other as teammates and the effort they give us everyday they show up.

  • Canon Mercer, 3B/OF,2025,3-year starter. Last season- .324 avg, 7 2B, 19 BB, 9 RBI, 17 R)
  • Caleb Underwood, 1B/OF/P, 2025, 3-year starter. Last season- .333 avg, 23 H, 3 2B, 16 RBI, 12 R, 13 BB, 1 S, 15 IP, 11 K) 
  • Solomon Norris, SS/2B, 2026, 2-year starter. Last season- .247 avg, 5 2B, 2 3B, 14 RBI

  • Caleb Underwood 1B/OF/P
