Knoxville Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Knoxville Rising Stars ID was held on Sunday, March 30th at Knoxville Catholic HS in Knoxville, TN. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2029-2030 classes from Volunteer State. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Knox Johnson SS / The Baylor School, TN / 2029Johnson possesses an impressive blend of strength and athleticism. He has a strong build that will continue to fill out. Hits from an open stance and short stride that allows him to get extension. The BP round produced an exit velocity up to 90 mph and a 60 time at 7.25. In the field, Johnson flashed a solid glove with an arm that will continue to get stronger. Looks to be a day one starter in his freshman year at powerhouse Baylor.

Mason Kelly OF / RHP / N/A, TN / 2029Mason Kelly flashed at the showcase immediately with a 85 mph arm from the outfield. Showed advanced actions in the outfield at such a young age. At the plate, Kelly hits from a narrow base with a short stride and low hands that keeps him on plane to hit line drives to the middle of the field. Kelly also pitched and had a fastball up to 80 mph with more in the tank as he continues to grow. He also had a curveball that flashed with a spin rate up to 2100 rpm.

Brody Threet C / RHP / Livingston Academy, TN / 2029Threet impressed in every facet of the game on Sunday starting off at catcher with a pop time that clocked in between 1.95-2.05 and an impressive 74 mph from behind the plate. At the plate, Threet has a simple approach with big pull side pop with an exit velocity up to 88 mph. He also pitched with a fastball that sat between 79-81 mph and developing offspeed pitches. With a mature stocky build, Threet already has tremendous presence as a catcher and at the plate for a young player.

Levi Schwinge UTILITY / Concord, TN / 2029Schwinge comes in with a very physical presence with a strong build standing at 6’2 180 lbs. WIth this size, Schwinge moves extremely well that should pay big dividends as he continues to progress. At the plate, it is a very simple approach with a short stride and lift that resulted in an exit velocity up to 86 mph. On the mound, Schwinge showed a good fastball up to 80 mph.

Beckett Kilday SS / C / Silverdale Baptist, TN / 2030Beckett Kilday is a young player that really impressed. Kilday has an athletic build and showcased well as a middle infielder with good actions and a strong glove. The best part of his day was with his legs posting a 7.18 60 time. At the plate, Kilday showed tremendous barrel control hitting balls in the middle of the field keeping everything on a line with strong backside and balanced approach.
