St. Augustine vs. Point Loma

Grayson Boles, RHP, St. Augustine, 2025, Texas Signee

This was yet another look at the MLB Draft hopeful. Boles took the hill at Point Loma, resuming his busy league schedule. With strong Western League opponents, it’s all gas, no breaks to end the season. Last week, Boles pitched in what could arguably be described as one of the best starts of his career. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out nine. The only reason why you didn’t hear all about it is because the game went 11 innings and ended in a 0-0 tie. Boles was reportedly up to 94 mph and held his velocity consistently. Against Point Loma, Boles faced a difficult side with some of the best baserunning designed to disrupt a pitcher’s rhythm and cause havoc. Boles didn’t have his best stuff but showed good perseverance to push through and leave the game with a lead intact while only allowing one run. He was on the winning side of multiple tough at-bats with batters fouling off the ball with two strikes to extend the at-bat. He pitched to the moment and adapted well to the pressure, getting the big outs and executing the pitches where and when they needed to be executed. His velocity on the FB consistently sat 89-92 mph through four innings while his SL held its top range of velocity at 82 mph, dipping as low as 79 mph late in the outing. He flashed his changeup at 83 mph primarily against LHHs, showing good arm-side fade and subtle dive. This was spotted on the outside half and as an intended chase pitch below the zone. Boles will continue to be tested with Cathedral Catholic on the docket next week, a matchup that is 100% going to bring big game atmosphere as it has in the past. Boles has consistently shown the competitive grit to step up to the challenge. As he showed against Patrick Henry last week, sometimes pressure brings out the best in us.
