Prep Baseball Canada Player of the Year: C Nathan Flewelling
July 8, 2024
The Prep Baseball Canada staff is excited to announce that '24 C Nathan Flewelling (St. Joseph HS/Red Deer Braves) has earned our 2024 Player of the Year award!
The Gonzaga commit has gained a ton of steam since the conclusion of 2023 season as has had a slew of MLB teams checking in on him over the past several months. Flewelling represented Prep Baseball Canada on multiple occasions at the Best of the Tournament, including the most recent one in early May where he was the main attraction on the positional side and put together a quality tournament on both sides of the ball.
The left-handed hitter has provided plenty of impact to the Canadian Junior National Team lineup on their first two trips of the year and is now finishing out his season in his home province of Albert with the Sylvan Lake Gulls of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL), a summer collegiate league in Western Canada. In 15 games with the Gulls, Flewelling is batting .375 with four home runs, five doubles, 17 RBI, 17 runs and more walks (13) than strikeouts (8).
Flewelling is also the first player outside of Ontario to win Prep Baseball Canada's Player of the Year.

Scouting Report
Flewelling was one of the main attractions in the box during the Best of the West and he continued to show why, performing at a high level all week. The physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound catcher has added significant size to his frame, which helped him back-spin baseballs to all parts of the field, came up in a couple big AB’s this weekend and delivered. Behind the dish, he showed advanced catch and throw with a 1.90 in-game pop-time. Flewelling has really inserted himself as one of the top prospects here in 2024 and will be one to watch as we inch closer to the MLB Draft.
Flewelling continues to hit wherever he goes, this time it was on the Langley Blaze Pro Tour against quality arms. The 2024/25 C drove the ball hard all week, with 4 extra base hits, 2 of which were triples, and had multiple hard line drive outs against MiLB arms. He works gap-to-gap, getting on time with harder velocity. Flewelling has been up to a 108 mph exit velocity at the St. Joseph's Scout Day and is one of the top players in the country.
As one of the top players in the country, Flewelling continues to impress everytime we see him. Behind the dish he has a strong arm and quick transfer, having a POP time of 1.83 and catcher velocity of 82 mph. He also moves well behind the dish, utilizing his athleticism. In the box is where the Gonzaga commit really shines. The LHH shows present strength and maintains controlled aggression and drives the ball back up the middle with authority. He reached a max exit velocity of 108.1 mph and had 6 balls hit over 102 mph. The Canadian JNT member is going to have an immediate impact wherever he steps on the field this summer.
