The past 2 weeks provided players with multiple opportunities to showcase their abilities in a variety of settings. From workout evaluations to simulated gameplay at the NY State Games, these events brought together some of the Northeast's top talent and gave prospects the chance to display their tools in front of college coaches from across the region.

Inside this notebook, we're highlighting the top performers from both events by taking a deeper look at the data and identifying the players who separated themselves. Whether it was loud offensive production, standout athletic testing, or dominant performances on the mound, these athletes capitalized on their opportunities and strengthened their stock heading into the remainder of the summer.

Session 1 Standouts (Alphabetical Last Name Order)

Brayden Dewey RHP / OF / McQuaid Jesuit, NY / 2027

The 6’0” - 170 lb athlete had an impressive 2-way showing metrically at the NY State Games. On the mound, Brayden is deliberate with his mechanics with a long arm in the backswing that slingshots into a ¾ release. His delivery creates the foundation for a pitch mix that features high spin and late movement. The FB which sat 83-85 topping 86, spun at over 2360 RPM on average getting hitters quick. Pairing that with a hammer CB which sat 70-74, spun at over 2440 on average with up to -23” of horizontal movement creates an effective put away pitch.

As a position player during morning workouts, Brayden ran a 6.86 60-yard dash, threw 88 MPH from the outfield, and had a 97 MPH Max EV, illustrating the athletic traits and overall tool set that point to continued development on both sides of the ball.

Wilson Genareo RHP / OF / Southwestern Senior High School, NY / 2028

The 6'0" - 180 lb athlete stood out across multiple workouts, producing strong metrics on both sides of the ball at the NY State Games. As a position player, Wilson ran a 7.04-second 60-yard dash and threw 84 MPH from the outfield, though his offensive tools were what stood out most. At the plate, Genareo sets up with a wide lower half, quiet hands resting the bat on his shoulder, and double taps his front foot during his load. From there, he drops the hands to stay short and aggressive to the ball staying on plane through the zone to create a 99 MPH Max EV and a 379’ max distance.

On the mound, Wilson stayed exclusively from the stretch with a compact arm in the backswing into a 3/4 release. His stuff jumps out of the hand with the FB sitting 84-87 and topping 88. He pairs the main offering with a SL sitting 68-71 MPH that spins up to 2000 RPM and averages -13.6” of horizontal movement.

Matthew McCarthy RHP / OF / Albany, NY / 2027

The 5’10” - 160 lb wiry athlete filled up the leaderboard on both sides of the ball at the NY State Games. At the plate, Matthew produced a 96 MPH Max EV, with firm hands and a level swing path that stays on plane through the zone, though his defensive tools were what stood out most. The 6.84 60-yard dash runner displayed advanced defensive tools in the outfield, reaching 93 MPH with the arm. He moves effortlessly to the baseball, and pairs his athletic actions with advanced arm strength. That arm strength translated just as well on the mound, where Matthew continued to showcase his upside.

Mechanically, he operates with a deliberate tempo, getting long and extended in the backswing before accelerating into a quick ¾ release that produces advanced spin on all of his offerings. The FB sat 84-86 topping 87 numerous times with up to 21” of induced vertical break and 18” of horizontal movement making it a firm armside runner at its peak. His best offspeed offering is the CB sitting 67-71 generates sharp 11/5 movement with up to 2700 RPMs. He rounds out his arsenal with a SL that sits 74-77 touching 79 with up to 2680 RPMs and a CH 78-80 with up to 14” of horizontal movement.

The 6'2" - 195 lb athlete's best tool is his arm, which plays at a high level, producing throws up to 91 MPH from the outfield. He projects well for a corner outfield role, running a 7.19 60-yd-dash earlier in the month, giving him the tools to develop into an above-average defender. At the plate, Branden has a quiet and balanced setup and double taps his front foot during his load. From there, he creates a whippy effect on the barrel, rotating well through impact and getting his hand speed up to 23 MPH to create a 98 MPH Max EV and driving the ball up to 363’.

These metrics translated in game, going 4-4 with 3 XBHs including a triple to CF and 3 SBs. The offensive tools were on full display, but his biggest statement came on the mound, where he earned Session 1 MVP Pitcher honors.

Mechanically, he operates with a clean, compact arm action and a 5.5 ft release height that helps him hide the baseball well. The arsenal features 3 pitches, the FB which sat 85-87 and spun just over 2200 RPMs, the CB which sat 72-75 which spun up to 2300 RPMs with true 11/5 movement, and a SL which sat 78-80 that generated late sweep up to just under 2200 RPMs. Valente went 2 scoreless innings with 4 Ks, including an immaculate inning!
