Dream Of Being Buckeye Realized By Kern

ARCHBOLD - An impressive performance at the Future Games helped Kade Kern reach a goal of many high school athletes in the state of Ohio.

Kern is going to be a Buckeye.

“This means a ton,” noted the Archbold junior about committing to Ohio State. “It’s always been the school I wanted to go to and it’s a blessing to make it happen.”

Three home runs at the Future Games in August, including two in game action, proved beneficial for the 18th-ranked player in the state’s 2020 class.

“The Future Games was a great experience,” Kern said. “It was a lot of fun with so many scouts there. It was an amazing opportunity for uncommitted athletes to showcase their talents.

“You can always get better, but I performed close to my potential,” added Kern. “I had a personal best with 97 exit velo, I had an 89 outfield velo and I ran a 6.7.”

And then there were the long balls, which included a grand slam..

“You try to hit them but sometimes they never fall for you,” Kern reflected. “Fortunately they did for me. It’s a blessing it could happen with all the scouts there. I felt if I stayed positive and stayed calm, I could do well each day.”

Kern, who had been in contact with Wright State, Kent State, Ohio State and Toledo prior to the Future Games, drew more interest after the event with Indiana, Michigan and Purdue all reaching out to the right-handed hitting outfielder.
