West Houston Preseason ID: Quick Hits

On Saturday, January 3rd, the PB Texas staff traveled to Cotton Ranch Sports Complex in Katy, TX, to host the West Houston Preseason ID, an open event for all high school classes.
More than 20 players made their way to Cotton Ranch this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.
We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on some of the prospects who stood out throughout the event.

David Garcia | 2B | Katy | 2029 | R/R | 5’6” 160
Garcia is a steady defender with solid actions on the dirt. What stands out most is his ability to consistently drive the baseball through the middle of the field with backspin. Shows good rhythm in both his hands and feet while staying quiet in the box. Displays reliable barrel-to-ball skills and flashes present hit ability during BP.
Jacob Owens | SS/OF | Tompkins | 2027 | R/R | 5’9” 160
Owens turned in a strong showing on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he showcased a strong arm, topping 91 mph from the outfield and 88 mph across the infield. Shows good overall actions in both the infield and outfield, appearing most comfortable at shortstop. At the plate, he features a simple, repeatable swing with a gap-to-gap approach.
Noah Powell | C/OF | The Bennett School | 2027 | R/R | 5’10” 165
Powell bested a 1.97 pop time, highlighting his ability to catch and throw behind the plate. Moves well with a quick release, and throws show good spin and carry. Offensively, he’s a solid mover with the ability to get the bat head out consistently. Topped 101 mph exit velocity while spraying line drives to all fields. Has a chance to develop into a high-level hitter.
Nicolas Collazo | SS/2B | Tompkins | 2028 | R/R | 5’10” 170
Collazo is a solid defender with the versatility to play shortstop, second base, or third base, showing enough arm strength for the left side. Athletic mover with some present strength for his age. Displays good infield actions and a quick, efficient release. At the plate, he profiles as a gap-to-gap hitter with doubles pop, combining a sound stroke with the potential to be an impactful offensive player.
Hudson Prior | C | Liberty Hill | 2027 | R/R | 6’1” 185
Prior posted a best pop time of 1.94 during Saturday’s workout. He’s a reliable catch-and-throw backstop with a quick release and true spin on his throws. Shows good mobility behind the plate and throws with consistent accuracy. Offensively, features a short, quick swing with fast hands and gap-to-gap pop. Reached 99 mph exit velocity in BP.
Casen Cooley | 1B/LHP | Freeman El | 2028 | L/L | 6’4” 195
Cooley owns a tall, wiry frame with strength present in his hands. Swings it well from the left side with bat speed and the ability to drive balls to both gaps, topping 104 mph exit velocity. Defensively, moves well around first base with solid feet and hands. Projects as an impact-type player as he continues to develop.
Adriel Rivera Alicea | C | Katy | 2028 | R/R | 5’9” 205
Alicea stands out as one of the top receiving catchers in his age group statewide. Extremely soft-handed and quiet behind the plate, making the position look effortless. Bested a 1.92 pop time and did not exceed 1.96, showing a quick, accurate release. Offensively, consistently barreled balls through the middle of the field with doubles pop and topped 100 mph exit velocity.
