Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is right around the corner, and as always, excitement is building across the Bayou State. Programs from every corner of Louisiana have been hard at work this offseason—honing skills, building chemistry, and setting their sights on a return trip to Sulphur for the LHSAA State Championships. As is tradition, the state is once again loaded with talent, from seasoned veterans to rising underclassmen ready to make their mark.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll take an in-depth look at teams from every region as part of our comprehensive season preview series. These previews will lead right up to Opening Day, followed by the release of our Power 25 Rankings and the return of our always-popular Game of the Week feature.

Throughout the spring, Prep Baseball Louisiana will continue to be your one-stop source for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Be sure to check back weekly for our Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, updated Power 25 Rankings, and plenty of additional coverage highlighting the stories, performances, and programs that make Louisiana baseball special.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Preview

There’s a quiet confidence brewing in Mamou as the Green Demons prepare for the 2026 season. After a scrappy 16-win campaign that ended in the second round of the playoffs, Head Coach Dylan Duplechain’s group brings back nearly every starter — and adds a wave of talented underclassmen ready to make noise. While still young, this group has grown up quickly, and their mix of leadership, offensive consistency, and developing arms makes them a sneaky team to watch in Class 3A.

The 2026 Green Demons won’t rely on the long ball, but they will grind out at-bats, play solid defense, and make opponents earn every out. Depth on the mound remains a work in progress, but the arms are developing, and with a few of their young pitchers taking steps forward, Mamou could surprise some people come playoff time.

Team Strengths

  • Competitive, team-first approach at the plate
  • Consistent offensive production throughout the lineup
  • Reliable, fundamentally sound defense
  • Tight-knit group with growing chemistry and leadership

Team Weaknesses

  • Limited proven pitching depth
  • Young pitching staff still developing confidence and command
  • Need for new arms to step into key roles

Top Returning Players

-Senior Collin Dupre

2025 Stats: 25 IP | 3.86 ERA

A veteran presence on a young staff, Dupre provides needed experience and maturity on the mound. Expect him to be a steadying influence as Mamou’s young arms develop behind him.

-Junior Eli Miller

2025 Stats: 75 AB | .320 AVG | 26 RBI | 40 IP | 2.97 ERA | .200 BAA

The emotional and vocal leader of the Green Demons, Miller sets the tone every day. He’s embraced the challenge of becoming the team’s workhorse on the mound, holding down quality lineups — including a strong performance against Erath in the playoffs. His physical transformation over the past two years speaks volumes about his work ethic, and while he may not fit the D1 prototype yet, Miller is the kind of competitor who finds a way to play at the next level.

-Junior Miles Perron

2025 Stats: 74 AB | .450 OBP | 29 R | 14 SB | 46.1 IP | 3.47 ERA

The definition of “lead by example.” Perron can play all nine positions at a high level and provides stability both on the mound and in the field. After a challenging 2025, the junior right-hander is poised for a bounce-back season, with his versatility and athleticism making him one of Mamou’s most valuable players.

-Sophomore Branigan Berzas

2025 Stats: 82 AB | .451 AVG | .530 OBP | 31 RBI | 37 H | 10 SB

Berzas might be the most complete offensive player Mamou has seen in recent years. He’s composed, makes in-game adjustments with ease, and has the rare ability to hit for both average and power. His drive and work ethic are unmatched — lifting twice a day and balancing multiple sports — and he’s maturing quickly into a team leader. Expect him to be at or near the top of every major offensive category this spring.

-Sophomore Layne Gremillion

2025 Stats: 80 AB | .350 AVG | .411 OBP | 21 IP | 21 K

Gremillion has the potential to emerge as the guy on the mound for the Green Demons. With a four-pitch mix and the ability to touch the low 80s, he’s a natural pitcher who continues to refine his command and composure. A breakout year could be on deck for one of Mamou’s most intriguing arms.

-Sophomore Ben Soileau

2025 Stats: 67 AB | .343 AVG | .458 OBP | 0 Errors

A high-IQ, under-the-radar player who simply makes winning plays. Soileau brings elite outfield instincts and a disciplined approach at the plate. He’s a tone-setter whose consistency and defensive reliability make him a key piece of the lineup.

Underclassmen to Watch

-Sophomore Ian Tezeno

2025 Stats: 77 AB | .286 AVG

Arguably the best pure athlete on the team — boasting the strongest arm and elite natural tools. Still raw, Tezeno’s athleticism (speed, jump, strength) gives him a high ceiling as he continues to polish his game.

-Freshman Grant Guillory

A gifted athlete with standout natural ability and a tireless work ethic. Guillory’s daily dedication — even while balancing multiple sports — sets him apart. His addition bolsters Mamou’s pitching depth and adds another dynamic offensive piece to an already competitive lineup.

-Freshman Brayden Perron

The “glue guy” every team needs. Perron’s leadership and unselfish nature have played a massive role in uniting the group. His grit and mentality are infectious — the kind of player that makes everyone around him better.

Outlook

“We expect to be a sneaky good team this year,” said Coach Duplechain. “Last year, we probably overachieved a little with our pitching depth, but this year we’re deeper and overall better. We bring back just about every starter and added a really talented freshman class that gives us more options across the board. If our young guys step into their roles, we’ll be competitive with just about anyone.”

With a returning core that knows how to compete, a maturing group of arms, and several emerging underclassmen ready to contribute, the Green Demons have every reason to believe they can make another playoff push — and maybe even surprise a few teams along the way.
