LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - In the history of the Major League Baseball Draft never have three high school teammates been drafted in the first 50 picks making what took place at Corona High School in 2025 one of the most uniquely special group of players ever seen. The Panthers saw three players drafted in the first 32 picks of the draft when Seth Hernandez (6), Billy Carlson (10), and Brady Ebel (32) all were selected on Day One of the 2025 MLB Draft.

SETH HERNANDEZ

We sat down with Corona Head Coach, Andy Wise, back in March where we discussed not only his team, but the three players that would eventually hear their name called on Day One. Even in the midst of trying to repeat as CIF-SS D1 champions, Wise recognized the uniqueness Hernandez, Carlson, and Ebel presented. "They're great teammates, great competitors, but most importantly they are great people,” said Wise. “Those guys know one way to play the game both mentally and physically and they just do it.”

BILLY CARLSON

For the trio of two-time Prep Baseball All-American’s who were widely considered first round picks going back to their junior seasons, the pressure of being something they’re not and trying to do too much to impress scouts never seemed to faze them. All three were part of the Prep Baseball California All-State team, with Hernandez earning the Prep Baseball California State Player of the Year honors.

BRADY EBEL

There is unlikely to ever be another high school team with three players selected in the Top 32 picks making what happened at Corona High School, a public school playing in a region that has been dominated by private schools the last decade, all the more special. And while many people will say the Panthers benefited from transfers in order to accomplish their goals, I would respond with this, show me one team in any of the big three sports that hasn’t benefited from a transfer or two in the last five years.

Because at the end of the day, transfer or not, what Hernandez, Carlson, and Ebel accomplished in 2025 may never be seen again.
