Wisconsin Signing Day: Southeastern Conference Outlook

On Nov. 13th, thousands of high school baseball players across the country signed their National Letters of Intent to lock in their official commitments to their respective schools, with many of these signings hailing from Wisconsin.

Over the next few weeks, we will spend some time highlighting the names from Wisconsin that signed their NLI to play baseball at the Division I level. We’ll do so by breaking these names up by conference, starting with the SEC, and you'll learn more today about the players from Wisconsin headed to those programs, below.

AUBURN

Jace Mataczynski SS / Hudson, WI / 2026

Mataczynski will be joining the Tigers after sustaining one of the top breakouts across the nation, showcasing high-level arm talent both in the field and on the mound, along with an strong bat at the dish. The long-levered 6-foot-3, 183-pound the impact shortstop was one of the top winners over the course of the spring/summer season before breaking out at LakePoint this July. Going 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run while also tossing a scoreless inning to earn MVP honors. Mataczynski features an impressive collection of tools throughout his game, highlighted by plus speed on the basepaths with a 6.69-second 60-yard dash in-event. At the plate, he possesses a strong feel for the barrel with the ability to drive the ball to all fields, registering a 101.5 mph max exit velocity with a 96 mph average while hitting a number of balls over 100 mph in game. Defensively, he displays clean and natural actions up the middle with one of the top arms across the diamond in the country at 98 mph. He has also shown some potential on the mound, flashing a lively fastball that sits 90-93 mph and a low-80s slider that he has shown solid control of.

From 7/31/25: “Currently ranked No. 14 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Coming in at a high-waisted 6-foot-3, 186-pound frame, Mataczynski was the biggest winner at the event, eventually going on to win MVP of the Senior Future Games. The right-hander started the week off by showing off his athleticism, running a 6.69 60-yard dash with a 20.8 mph max run speed. He then went on to have one of the louder rounds of the day in BP. He finished with a 101.5 mph max exit velocity, four balls hit over 100 mph, a 96 mph average exit velocity, and a 375-foot max distance. He also had the highest infield velocity across the diamond at 98 mph, carrying that loose arm and clean glove into gameplay. At the plate, Mataczynski finished 3-for-5, with a pull-side home run that was 103 mph off the bat, four RBIs, three runs, two walks and two stolen bases. He also went on to hop up on the mound, giving an upside look with some lively stuff. His fastball was 90-93 mph with a 17.4” IVB max, and he flashed a slider at 80 mph. He went on to toss one scoreless inning without allowing a single hit.”

LOUISIANA STATE

Dominic Santarelli 1B / OF / St. Joseph, WI / 2026

The reigning National Champions have continued to assemble one of the top recruiting classes in the country, highlighted by the addition of one of the nation’s premier left-handed bats in 1B Dominic Santarelli (St. Joseph). The left-hander is widely regarded as one of Wisconsin’s prospects and the top first baseman in the country. Listed at a physical 6-foot, 226-pound frame, Santarelli showcases some of the best raw power in the nation from the left side of the plate, registering a 108.6 mph max exit velocity, a 102.3 mph average, and a max distance of 413 feet in-event. The first baseman also displays above-average athleticism for his size, clocking a 6.70-second 60-yard dash. With the Super 60 event coming up, it will be interesting to see how Santarelli performs and continues to develop as a prospect.

From 3/12/25: “1B/OF Dominic Santarelli (St. Joseph, 2026; Louisville commit) continues to elevate his prospect status each time we see him, and it was no different this past weekend. Already one of the top bats in the country for his class, Santarelli has added more impact and athleticism over the winter. Leading the event with a 6.74 run-time, improving from his previous 7.32 time. At the plate, the physical left-hander looks like a more explosive version of himself at 6-foot-1, 230-pounds. Bat-to-ball and quality of contact stand out for Santarelli, with the innate feel to leverage the ball in the air, the impact was evident throughout the round with an average exit velocity of 102.3 mph while topping out at 108.6 mph. Santarelli comes with a history of performing and made a statement this weekend, reaffirming his status as one of the top bats in the country.”

OKLAHOMA

Jack Brenner C / SS / Fond du Lac, WI / 2026

There is plenty to be excited about for the Sooners as they landed Wisconsin’s top catcher C Jack Brenner (Fond du Lac). The right-handed catcher came off an outstanding spring campaign that earned him all-conference honors and recognition as the Wisconsin High School Player of the Week. Currently ranked No. 9 in the state, there is a lot to like about Brenner on both sides of the ball. The athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound catcher possesses some notable agility on the base pads, running a 6.76 60-yard dash in-event. At the plate, the right-hander consistently puts up quality at-bats with the ability to leverage the ball to all fields, registering a 97 mph max exit velocity with a 93 mph average. Behind the plate, Brenner is a natural defender with advanced catch-and-throw skills, boasting a top pop time of 1.85 seconds and an 82 mph throw.

From 3/19/25: “C/UTL Jack Brenner (Fon du Lac, 2026; Kent State commit) was one of the top performers from the weekend. The former Prep Baseball Future Game participant impressed throughout the day. Standing at an athletic and strong 5-foot-11, 170 pound frame with room for more fill, Brenner started his day by running the fastest recorded 60-yard dash at 6.76. At the plate, the right-handed hitter took a standout round of BP consistently finding the barrel and impacting the ball with leverage out in front. Defensively, Brenner shows off his athleticism at multiple spots, a capable defender behind the plate with advanced catch-and-throw ability with a strong and accurate arm up to 82 mph from the crouch and a pop time range of 1.85-2.03. Also a sure handed infielder with range and arm strength up to 88 mph.”

SOUTH CAROLINA

Colton Semmelmann LHP / Brookfield Central, WI / 2026

The Gamecocks will look to bolster their pitching staff with the addition of LHP Colton Semmelmann (Brookfield Central), one of the top left-handed arms in the Midwest. Currently ranked No. 4 in the state and the No. 20 left-handed pitcher nationally, the southpaw projects to make an immediate impact on the mound upon arriving on campus. Standing in at a well-proportioned 6-foot-1, 191-pound frame with additional room to fill out, there is a lot to dream on with Semmelmann’s effective four-pitch arsenal. He features a firm upper-80s-to-low-90s fastball with life through the zone, reaching 92 mph in front of our staff. He also employs a high-spin curveball with an average spin rate of 2,600+ rpm, a diving changeup with a -16” HM max, and a sharp low-80s cutter.

From 5/6/25: “South Carolina commit, currently ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 243 in the country. 6-foot-1, 191-pounds, durable build with some strength in the lower-half, still has room to fill out in the coming years. Started on the mound for Central, going three innings with just two hits allowed, two earned runs, four walks and eight strikeouts. The big southpaw is a loose mover, working into a coiled balance point while holding some pre-bend in the back knee down the mound, clean movement patterns, creates notable layback at footstrike. Clean arm, medium arm circle, ¾ slot. Collected whiffs on the fastball in the zone, playing with some finish and life through the zone at 90-91 mph, T92 mph early. Curveball showed big 1/7 shape and depth with sharp action, 71-74 mph, could land for strikes. Flashed a cutter with shorter lateral break, developing feel, 79-80 mph. Changeup flashed hard dive and was landing arm-side in warmups. High-ceiling arm, dynamic mover with more to come.”
