With the end of the year right around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to highlight players who stood out to our staff throughout the year - whether it was at an event, a tournament, or a game in the spring. Today, we continue our rollout with a look at some of the pitching winners from the 2027 class.

Arm Barn

Kaden Wasniewski RHP / 3B / McHenry, IL / 2027

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: INF Kaden Wasniewski (McHenry) is the top-ranked Illinois player in attendance, ranked No. 2 in the state, and he will be a must-see player on both sides of the ball. Listed at 6-foot, 175-pounds with lean strength, there is still more to come and dream on in the frame. He had a quality round of BP with a longer and flat swing through the zone, peaking at 93.7 mph for his EV. He’s also a premier athlete, cruising to a 6.54 in the 60. GAMEPLAY: The top ranked two-way in the Midwest stole the show in the first game with a premium look on the mound, but he also looks to be a sure-handed corner infielder with an athletic right-handed swing, pairing with quality awareness of the zone with minimal chase. PITCHING: It was pure dominance when Wasniewski took the mound, striking out four over two hitless and scoreless frames, also not allowing a walk. The fastball explodes out of his hand with over 2,700 rpm, sitting 92-95 mph with more likely on the way. He showed a tight slider to pair off the fastball with sharp bite and feel, 79-83 mph. Flashed a power changeup at 83-86 mph with arm-speed, late fade, collected whiffs.”

Brady Buenik RHP / 3B / Libertyville, IL / 2027

From 5/24/25: “Uncommitted, currently the No. 1 ranked player in Illinois and No. 51 nationally. 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, present strength and durability but is extremely projectable, still holds room for more physicality. Gave a brief look in one inning of work, not allowing a hit or run while striking out one against one walk. Up-tempo and compact delivery into his leg-lift and balance point, holds pre-bend in the back knee and works quickly downhill, slight cross-fire stride, closed landing foot. Clean and uninterrupted arm circle, loose and free-flowing, ¾ slot. Fastball sat right around 91-93 mph with arm-side run, topping out at 94 mph, occasionally pulled it hard to the glove-side. Slider looks like an out-pitch, showing depth and sharp bite off a 10/4 plane around 80 mph. Splitter also flashed out-pitch potential, mimicking the fastball out of the hand and diving late to the bottom of the zone with depth, 80 mph. High-ceiling starter profile with a ton more to tap into, also a QB on the football field.”

Brady Cunningham 3B / RHP / Brother Rice, IL / 2027

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: The No. 4 player in Illinois, CIF Brady Cunningham (Brother Rice) was a day one winner from the workout, and he’s one to circle for the rest of the week. Listed at 6-foot-2, 218-pounds, he’s a premium athlete especially for his size, turning in a 6.67 in the 60. The right-handed bat has shown incredibly well in-game for our staff with minimal swing/miss and loud results, and there’s easy strength in his simple swing with a peak EV of 101.6 mph (76.7 mph avg. bat-speed; 22.3 mph avg. hand-speed). He can play either corner infield position with steady hands and a strong arm. GAMEPLAY: Two of the loudest barrels of the entire week both came off the bat of Cunningham, with a 107 mph single in the first game and a 105 mph lineout in the final game. The bat-to-ball is premium with minimal swing/miss or chase, and there’s plus power likely as he continues to mature physically. Motor really stands out in-game with hard run-times down the line. PITCHING: On the mound, the physical right-hander attacked in the zone with his fastball and curveball, not allowing a run over his two innings of work. The fastball played up to 90.5 mph, sitting 88-89 mph with carry up in the zone. The curveball showed depth and over-the-top shape in the mid-70s.”

Tyler Gluting LHP / OF / Metea Valley, IL / 2027

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: OF Tyler Gluting (Metea Valley) will also be taking the mound for Team Illinois later in the week, but showed well as a position player in the workout portion. Standing in at 5-foot-11, 159-pounds, there’s still plenty of room to add strength to his lean frame in the coming years. He showed a fluid and loose lefty stroke in BP, working on the barrel up the middle of the field with a peak EV of 98.4 mph. He’s an athletic mover in the outfield with speed to pair (6.99-60), and he has plenty of arm-strength to go with it (T91 mph OF). The No. 6 ranked player in the state, Gluting will be an intriguing follow on both sides of the ball this week. GAMEPLAY: Gluting took some impressive swings throughout the week, showing looseness in his stroke with some feel for the barrel - finishing 3-for-7 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. PITCHING: He gave an extremely loud look on the mound, topping at 94.7 mph with the fastball and flashing a wipeout breaking ball around 80 mph. Though the strikes were scattered, it was an eye-opening showing of the pure arm-talent Gluting possesses.”

Traxton Roberts RHP / 3B / Armstrong, IL / 2027

From 8/05/25: “RHP Traxton Roberts (Armstrong, 2027) was dominant on Tuesday as he struck out all six batters that he faced. Roberts continues to put on big-time performances like he did down in Georgia when he was a member of Team Illinois during the Future Games a couple weeks ago. Athletic 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. The right-hander operates from a simple, controlled delivery with a high leg lift. Full, quick arm action from a ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat 88-90 mph while topping out at 91.6 mph. He mixed in a sharp slider that sat 79-82 mph while also utilizing a changeup that sat 81-83 mph with heavy fade. Roberts rounded out his pitch-mix with a curveball that sat 68-72 mph with downer action. He showed confidence in all four pitches while utilizing the changeup and slider as potential out-pitches. An incredible arm that is still on the market and sure to get plenty of attention.”

Quinn Rooney LHP / 1B / Benet Academy, IL / 2027

From 6/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: LHP Quinn Rooney (Benet) features plenty of projection in his 6-foot-5, 196-pound frame. Working exclusively out of the stretch, Rooney works in line with the plate and throws with plenty of ease out of a higher slot. During his workout, Rooney showed a feel for a pair of offerings. His fastball was living in the 85-87 mph range (T88.5), collecting swing and miss, and he also went to a 72-74 mph curveball with 1/7 bite. The southpaw was effective in his outing, walking one and striking out two in his scoreless inning of work on Saturday.”

Kash VanHouten SS / RHP / Canton, IL / 2027

From 8/05/25: “Fresh off of attending the Future Games as a member of Team Illinois, UTL/RHP Kash VanHouten (Canton, 2027) would continue to show one of the top two-way profiles in the rising junior class. At the plate, he showed an athletic right-handed swing with an aggressive approach and whole field intent while also flashing barrel strength during his batting practice with a max exit velocity of 97.7 mph. Worked out as an infielder, showing athletic movements and a strong arm that was up to 93 mph from across the diamond. Also took reps in the outfield during gameplay and showed fringy instincts with athleticism to project on. Would make a short stint on the mound and showed an athletic, fluid delivery while working a long, loose 3/4s release. The fastball would get up to 91 mph with up to 2519 rpm and 21 inches of induced vertical break. Showed a 75-75 curveball with 10/4 shape, spin rates up to 2475 rpm, and swing-and-miss traits. Also showed a low-80s changeup with arm-side run and some present feel. Athletic 6-foot-1, 181-pound frame.”

Chase Reinhart LHP / OF / Normal West, IL / 2027

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: LHP Chase Reinhart (Normal West) threw it well in game one, going two shutout innings with no hits allowed, no walks and five strikeouts. He’s an athletic mover with some bounce in his delivery and finish, high leg-kick, gets into his backside down the mound, works in-line. Arm is quick and shorter from the glove, ¾ release. The fastball played in the 84-87 mph range, topping out at 88 mph with arm-side life. He went to a slider in the 69-70 mph range to change up the pace, showing depth and some two-plane break.”

From 8/05/25: “RHP Colin Doyle (Downers Grove North, 2026) is an imposing, long-limbed, 6-foot-7, 215-pound frame, and he showed why he has one of the highest ceilings in the 2026 class. The right-hander on the mound is a loose, easy mover, working on a line with a drop and drive motion. The arm works loose and quick, with full-circle arm action from a lower ¾ slot. Showcasing a three-pitch mix, the fastball was sitting 86-88 mph, easy out of the hand, with 18.6 IVB and slight cut with 4.8 inches of horizontal movement. The slider was 72-74 mph, a gyro profile with 2400 RPMs. The changeup was 80-81 mph with arm-side run, dropping of from the fastball. In-game, Doyle showed some command struggles, but was able to find himself deeper into his outing, pounding the zone with fastballs.”

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: OF Cullen Schwigen (Rockridge) is yet another two-way to follow this week as the No. 10 player in Illinois, and he looked the part in the positional workout. A high-level QB1 on the gridiron, Schwigen has a physical and lean frame standing at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. He has a strong right-handed swing with a compact stroke, creating easy jump off the barrel with a peak EV of 99.4 mph - averaging 75.7 mph for his bat-speed. The fastball played 86-88 mph, topping out at 89 mph with some life up in the zone. The curveball showed bite with an 11/5 shape, 71-73 mph, depth and two-plane break. He’s an easy, athletic mover with a quick arm and simple delivery, should continue to make jumps.”

Mason Rychetsky RHP / 3B / Kennedy, IL / 2027

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: RHP Mason Rychetsky (Kennedy) started things off for us on the mound in game three, showing a three-pitch mix with some life in the arm. He’s a controlled mover with a coiled balance point and high leg-lift, working with a longer stride in-line down the mound. He has a higher front side that helps hide the ball a bit, and his arm action is shorter out of the glove into a lower ¾ release. The fastball played in the 87-90 mph range with jump out of the hand and life. His curveball has putaway potential with sharp 11/5 shape and depth, 72-74 mph. Flashed a straight changeup at 76 mph.”

Wade Ozment RHP / OF / Crystal Lake Central, IL / 2027

From 8/05/25: “RHP Wade Ozment (Crystal Lake Central, 2027) is one of the top uncommitted juniors in the state and continued to look the part at the State Games. His fastball sat 85-87 mph (T88) with heavy arm-side run and sinking action paired with above-average spin (avg. 2313 rpm). He would then show a sweeping curveball at 70-71 mph, and round out his mix with a 78-79 mph changeup that showed sink. A high-follow name to continue to watch in the state.”

Charley Spour RHP / 3B / St. Anthony, IL / 2027

From 8/05/25: “RHP Charley Spour (St. Anthony, 2027) is a must-know right-handed pitcher in the 2027 class who continues to show well. Spour punched out three in just over an inning of action. A long-levered 6-foot-3, 188-pound frame with more room to fill out. Athletic mover who operates only out of the stretch, starting slightly closed off with a high leg lift into a directional, tall-and-fall delivery. Long, loose arm-action out of a ¾ slot. From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: LHP Jimmy Benson (St. Laurence) is coming off a massive spring in which he helped lead his club to a 3A State Title. There’s a ton to dream on with his 6-foot-8, 205-pound frame, and he is another arm that gives a tough, deceptive look for opposing hitters. The fastball sat comfortably in the 81-84 mph range, collecting whiffs in the zone. He showed feel for his slider with 2/8 shape and some depth, landing it around the zone and also flashing sharp action, 70-73 mph. He also went to a fading changeup at 77-79 mph to fill out his arsenal. Controls his levers well for size, messed with timing with his leg-lifts. Struck out four over his two innings of work.”

From 7/26/25: “FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES: RHP Austin Winge (Lockport) showed his fastball and curveball during his outing on Saturday, and both offerings proved to be effective. Pairing off the fastball, he showed a mid-70s curveball that played with 12/6 bite and feel for the zone. He also flashed a low-80s changeup with some killed spin at only 1439 rpm. From 5/15/25: “Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 30 in the state. Lean, high-waisted 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. Got the ball to start for the North Stars and turned in a dominant performance. Ritchie had to navigate long half-innings on the bench, and was able to come out in the second and third innings and maintain the effectiveness of his arsenal. Line: W, 3 IP, H, 0 BB, 0 R, 6 K. A must-know name in the state’s sophomore class.”

Got the ball to start for the Hearts, and also batted leadoff. Braddy gave an upside look on the bump, going right at hitters with his 81-83 mph fastball, with quality secondaries to continue to build on for the future. He went to a 76-78 mph changeup early and often and induced swing and miss with the pitch. Braddy would also go to a 72-74 mph slider that played short and with more of a vertical shape, but it’s a pitch that could be above-average in the future. He would go on to strike out six batters over his four and two-thirds of work. He also showed an athletic left-handed swing and was on the barrel a couple times as well. A well-rounded athlete, Braddy is a name to know in the state’s sophomore class moving forward.”

The fastball was sitting 85-88 mph, with a max of 20.5 IVB, and the slider was sitting 76-78 mph, sharp gyro profile with slight sweep. In-game, Hengels was not afraid to attack with the slider with a heavy reliance on it, able to mix in the fastball, freezing hitters.”

Owen Satterlee RHP / RHP / Prairie Ridge, IL / 2027

From 6/10/25: “Stocky, compact 6-foot, 195-pound right-hander with strength in the build. Clean, full-circle arm action out of the stretch-only operation – even lift into a linear drive, clears the front side into a high OTT slot. Some dynamic athleticism in the move with present intent. Fastball works 86–87, T88 (2098 avg rpm) with sinker traits, playing heavy to the bottom of the zone. Curveball at 77–78 (2283 avg rpm) is tight and two-plane, while the slider (78–80, 2158 avg rpm) sweeps across the zone – both distinct breaking balls that give him multiple swing-and-miss looks. Changeup (79–81, 1355 avg rpm) kills spin effectively, showing arm-side depth and separation off the heater.”

Fox put together one of the most impressive outings we saw at this year's State Games. The wiry, 6-foot, 160-pound frame with plenty of room to fill out, the right-hander struck out three over two innings, only allowing one hit and walking none. Working with confidence and dominance on the mound, dealing with a four-pitch mix. The fastball was sitting 85-87 mph, with good ride for the slot, and the sinker played true, sitting mid-80s, with 15 inches of horizontal movement. The slider was 75-76 mph with a sweeper profile and 2200 RPMs, and the changeup was 75-76 mph, with arm-side run, dropping off from the fastball. Kobe Jordan RHP / Providence Catholic, IL / 2027

From 7/23/25: “Jordan was a name we labeled as a follow after last summer in which he showcased a long-levered frame and fastball up 81 mph. A summer later Jordan would show major strides in his profile on the mound with an 83-85 mph fastball and a sharp 72-73 mph slider. 6-foot-5, 215-pound frame. Should add more polish to his profile on the mound as he learns more body control and adds strength.”

The right-hander was an up-tempo mover, using a medium leg lift with tuck and coil, into a tall-and-fall lower half, with a clean, high ¾ arm action. Bettenhausen induced plenty of weak contact with his three-pitch arsenal, tossing two scoreless innings and limiting runners on the bases. His fastball sat 83-85 mph with ride through the zone, topping 86.8 mph with a max IVB of 18.2” and a HM max of 17.8”. His slider was 74-77 mph with a slurve profile and a 2,373 rpm max, and his changeup flashed heavy arm-side run at 77-79 mph with an 18.6” HM average.”
