Top-10 Profiles of 2025: No. 8 Taegen Tate

Prep Baseball Texas Staff

Checking in at No. 8 in our countdown of the most viewed profiles of 2025 is the state's No. 9 ranked prospect in RHP Taegen Tate (Amarillo, 2028).

The former JFG standout is an easy mover down the mound and shows great body control for his age. His mechanics are clean and efficient and he has shown to be a strike thrower as well. His fastball can already get into the low 90’s, but he doesn’t sell out for it. He has aptitude for spin already, and showed feel at JFG’s to be able to land the breaker for a strike.

Looking forward to seeing Tate on the bump this Spring in his sophomore season.

From 9/16/25: "Strong, durable build with room to continue adding strength. Despite a shorter arm action, Tate generates good hand speed. Fastball sits 85-87 and touches 89 with downhill plane and sink. When on time, shows feel to spin the ball. Slider (74-76) is his sharper, out-pitch offering, while the curveball (71-74) has more depth and works well to reset counts. Both pitches are effective and give him a quality mix. A very intriguing young arm to follow."
