Top-10 Stories of 2025: No. 4 Wisconsin Prospects Take Over the Senior Future Games

At the end of each calendar year, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff reflects back on the 10 most intriguing headlines that surrounded the baseball scene in the Badger State. Through the end of the month, we will break down the most impactful storylines from an eventful 2025 campaign, ending with our No. 1 story revealed Dec. 31.
This past summer, Prep Baseball hosted the second annual Senior Future Games, a 17U division made up of the best uncommitted Class of 2026 talent in the country. Team Heartland combines the top talent from Illinois and Wisconsin into a single roster.
Wisconsin was well represented throughout the roster and many have found homes at the next level.

Jace Mataczynski SS / Hudson, WI / 2026AUBURN COMMIT: From 7/22/25: "Has been one of the top players in the state since the beginning of the spring consistently performing in front of our staff across multiple looks. Standing in at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds with a frame that can add plenty of physicality, twitchy athlete up the middle as well running a 6.69 60-yard dash improving his time from the winter by 0.46 seconds. At the plate the right-handed hitter swings an athletic bat with feel for the barrel and leverage while consistently driving the ball in the air, averaging 96.0 mph throughout his round of BP, topping out at 101.5 mph. Defensively Mataczynski has the foot speed and burst to stick at short long term with more than enough arm strength for the left-side (T98 mph) while showing steady hands and athletic actions and range defensively." From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 14 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Coming in at a high-waisted 6-foot-3, 186-pound frame, Mataczynski was the biggest winner at the event, eventually going on to win MVP of the Senior Future Games. The right-hander started the week off by showing off his athleticism, running a 6.69 60-yard dash with a 20.8 mph max run speed. He then went on to have one of the louder rounds of the day in BP. He finished with a 101.5 mph max exit velocity, four balls hit over 100 mph, a 96 mph average exit velocity, and a 375-foot max distance. He also had the highest infield velocity across the diamond at 98 mph, carrying that loose arm and clean glove into gameplay. At the plate, Mataczynski finished 3-for-5, with a pull-side home run that was 103 mph off the bat, four RBIs, three runs, two walks and two stolen bases. He also went on to hop up on the mound, giving an upside look with some lively stuff. His fastball was 90-93 mph with a 17.4” IVB max, and he flashed a slider at 80 mph. He went on to toss one scoreless inning without allowing a single hit."

Ezra Liggon OF / Vel Phillips Memorial, WI / 2026BRADLEY COMMIT: From 7/22/25: "Stands at 6-foot-4, 190-pounds with a frame you can dream on physically. Similar athlete to his brother, one of the top athletes in the state with twitch that improved his run-time by .3 seconds running a 6.41 60-yard dash. At the plate, the left-handed hitter repeats in rhythm showing some feel for the barrel throughout his round averaging 89.1 mph throughout his round, peaking at 101.2 mph. Defensively Liggon has enough foot speed and arm strength to play all three spots with a shot at sticking in center field long term, the arm plays with carry and accuracy up to 90 mph." From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 7 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Showing off a twitchy, projectable 6-foot-4, 191-pound frame, Liggon was a winner during the workout and showed well in the first game. The left-hander started off the testing day by running a 6.41 sec 60-yard dash with a 22.3 mph top run speed. He followed that up by showing some easy power at the plate in BP. He finished with a max exit velocity of 101.2 mph, an 89.2 mph average exit velocity, and a 348-foot max distance. He also showed athletic actions in the outfield both in testing and in gameplay. He had a 90 mph outfield velocity in testing and threw a runner out at home in Wednesday’s 8-4 win. In the first game, Liggon went 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles and a run scored."

Caleb Liggon SS / OF / Vel Phillips Memorial, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 4
BRADLEY COMMIT: From 7/22/25: "Stands at 6-foot-4, 185-pounds with clear room for added physical development, twitchy athlete with burst cutting down his 60 time from a 6.78 to a 6.42. At the plate, the right-handed hitter took an easy round of BP consistently finding the barrel and driving the baseball, averaging 94.8 mph topping out at 99.1 mph. Defensively Liggon is a capable defender at multiple spots in the infield with sure hands and enough arm strength (T86 mph) to play on the left-side moving forward. With a frame that’s easy to dream on to pair with the twitch and athleticism Liggon is a must know name inside the Badger State." From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 15 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Exhibiting an agile, long-levered 6-foot-4, 186-pound frame with present athleticism, Liggon was another major winner in the workout. The right-hander ran a 6.42 sec 60-yard dash with one of the highest max run speeds of the day at 22.4 mph. He continued his strong performance into BP, consistently staying on the barrel throughout his round. Liggon had six balls barreled over 96 mph, a 99.1 mph max exit velocity, a 94.8 mph average exit velocity, a 91% hard hit percentage, and a 366-foot max distance. Liggon also showed clean actions in the fielding workout, utilizing a steady glove with a strong arm across the diamond at 86 mph. He continued his strong performance into gameplay, going 2-for-3 at the plate in his last game. He finished with two doubles, two runs scored, and a stolen base."

Cail Geiger RHP / Menomonee Falls, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 4
VALPARAISO COMMIT: From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 21 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Displaying an athletic, well-proportioned 6-foot, 188-pound frame, Geiger was lights out on the mound in his two innings of work. He was able to effectively miss barrels throughout his outing, not allowing a single hit. His fastball was 89-91 mph, topping 91.4 mph with a max horizontal movement of 18.5”. He also worked in a sharp 11/5 curveball at 78-81 mph with a 2,699 rpm max spin rate, and a changeup at 82-84 mph with a max horizontal movement of 22.2”. The right-hander tossed two scoreless innings, only allowing one base runner on a walk, while also collecting two strikeouts with a 68% strike percentage."

Liam Hagland RHP / Germantown, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 5
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE COMMIT: From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 60 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Standing in at a broad-shouldered 6-foot-1 frame with strength present throughout, Halgand showed some quality swing-and-miss stuff in Wednesday’s 8-4 win. The right-hander earned five whiffs across two innings, keeping hitters off-balance with his two-pitch mix. His fastball was 87-90 mph, topping 90.6 mph with a max spin rate of 2,443 rpm. He also employed a sharp, late breaking slider at 79-82 mph with a 2,868 rpm max spin rate. Hagland tossed two scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and two walks, collecting weak contact and adding a strikeout."

Callen Tomsyck OF / RHP / Muskego, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 23 / POS: 4
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE COMMIT: 7/22/25: "Twitchy athlete with more room to add to an already strong 5-foot-11, 177-pound frame. Already one of the top athletes in the state, Tomsyck improved his run-time from the winter from 6.61 to a 6.45 with an easy and athletic gate, and burst off the line. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed feel for the barrel, using the middle of the field throughout the round while averaging 95.3 mph off the bat, peaking at 100.4 mph. Defensively the Tomsyck is more than capable of playing all three spots with ease, showing feel and instinctive routes with arm strength that plays true and with accuracy while topping out at 91 mph." From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 25 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Working in a compact 5-foot-11, 177-pound frame with some strength present throughout, Tomsyck was another one of the biggest winners from both the showcase and the gameplay. The right-hander started the testing day off by running a 6.45 60-yard dash with a 21.7 mph max run speed. He followed that up with one of the louder rounds of BP, showing off some easy whole field power. He finished with a max exit velocity of 100.4 mph, with four balls hit over 98 mph, a 95.1 mph average exit velocity, a 91% hard hit percentage, and a 327-foot max distance. He also showed steady actions in the outfield with a strong arm that topped out at 91 mph in the fielding testing. He went on to carry this strong performance into gameplay. He finished 6-for-7 on the week, with a home run, five RBIs, five runs, one walk, one stolen base, and five balls hit over 95+ mph in gameplay."

Tanner Effertz RHP / Whitnall, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 25 / POS: 8
WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE COMMIT: From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 20 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Presenting a strong-bodied, imposing 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame, Effertz displayed some feel for spin with his fastball-curveball combo. His fastball was 87-91 mph with a 2,430 rpm max spin rate, and a 19.3” IVB max. He also employed a sharp curveball at 72-76 mph with a 2,770 rpm max, and a -21.1” horizontal movement max. Effertz finished with only one hit and one run allowed, securing two strikeouts through his two innings of work."

Joseph Meeter OF / Holmen, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 29 / POS: 6
NORTH DAKOTA STATE COMMIT: From 7/22/25: "Has been a name to watch for sometime now, standing at a strong 6-foot-1, 191 pounds with strength and more room to add to the frame. At the plate the right-handed hitter took one of the loudest rounds of BP on the day, recording a max exit velocity of 103.2 mph with four batted balls over 100 mph. The athlete stands out as well, recording a 6.65 run-time with a 30’ vertical, both rank near the top of the class in the state. Defensively Meeter has the tools and speed to play all three spots, the arm plays true reaching 91 mph from the outfield." From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 42 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Presenting an athletic 6-foot-1, 192-pound frame with some upside, Meeter had one of the more impressive workouts during testing day. The right-hander began the day with a 6.65 sec 60-yard dash, reaching a 20.7 mph max run speed with a 30” vertical jump. He then showed easy power at the plate during the hitting portion. He finished with a 100.3 mph max exit velocity in BP, with four balls hit over 100 mph, a 94.7 mph average exit velocity, and a 353-foot max distance. He also would look the part in the outfield with a strong arm at a 91 mph outfield velocity."

Luke Parkinson RHP / Whitnall, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 11
BRADLEY COMMIT: From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 30 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Displaying an athletic, long-levered 6-foot-3, 174-pound frame, Parkinson secured swings-and-misses with his lively fastball. The right-hander was able to collect six whiffs with his three-pitch mix, placing each pitch around the zone. His fastball was 85-89 mph, topping 90 mph with an IVB max of 20.4”. He utilized a sharp curveball at 68-71 mph with 2,525 rpm and -20.4” IVB max. He also flashed a changeup at 77-81 mph with mostly straight action. Parkinson tossed two scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and two walks with three strikeouts."

Paxton Schuh LHP / Kaukauna, WI / 2026Rankings StateRank: 40 / POS: 5
STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA COMMIT: From 7/30/25: "Currently ranked No. 26 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Possessing a trim 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame with strength present throughout, Schuh was able to effectively secure weak contact with his three-pitch mix. The left-hander’s fastball was 84-86 mph with a max horizontal movement of 15.8”. He also employed a 2/8 slider at 71-74 mph with a 14.4” horizontal movement max, and a changeup at 76-77 mph. Schuh bounced back in his second inning of work, working quickly to earn a 1-2-3 inning."
