Power Rankings: 2027 Shortstops
December 10, 2025
As we lead up to our end of year update, our staff hints at impending moves with the release of our position rankings for each position in the class as our board stands at the conclusion of the fall. This class has already seen 36 players make verbal commitments now that the recruiting period has aged almost four months.
Our position players are concluded with the shortstops, and we cut this group off at 15. The entire group is well-inside the T100 as high-caliber college prospects, along with holding the top uncommitted position players in the entire class, and 10 uncommitted players in total that should be seen early & often by recruiters in 2026.

Uncommitted Reports

Brayden Ring SS / Zionsville, IN / 2027+ Ring brings a host of above-average tools with a slow heartbeat and an athletic, 6-foot, 175-pound frame. He is reliable at short with a sure-handed nature and easy above average arm that works in the mid-80s across. Offensively, the operation is smooth and repeatable, delivering the barrel on-plane with sneaky pullside power that is likely to elevate further after an offseason of development. A 6.9 runner, look for Ring to be one of the more coveted uncommitted hitters in the class in 2026... |

Bo Blondi SS / RHP / Cathedral HS, IN / 2027+ Silky-smooth in all aspects, Blondi stands as the third-highest ranked uncommitted shortstop with several traits that indicate his stock could seriously climb in 2026. It is a young-looking, lean, projectable, 6-foot, 155-pound frame that continues to evolve. While the run metric doesn't jump off the page, it is largely due to a lack of strength and I expect it to take serious stride in 2026, along with the bat strength/speed. Blondi does have some of the best zone awareness of this crop of uncommitted shortstops, with innate bat-to-ball feel to pair that he brings from both sides of the dish. Presently, the arm is the best tool and I still holds him in two-way regards as he's been up to 88 in front of our staff. The arm translates into the low-90s across the dirt, and his strength at short is the ability to slow the game down and make routine plays on a consistent basis. |

Logan Drake SS / Castle High School, IN / 2027+ From 2025 Nitro Scout Day: Drake is a gamer-first SS with tools becoming louder as his athleticism begins to trend positively. His turned in a PR 60-time with a 6.90 60-yard dash before a low-intent round of batting practice where he sprayed liners with an on-plane stroke. His contact skills at the dish are the carrying attribute to this point and he offers twitchy strength behind a short barrel path with exits reaching 92.6 mph. He'll grow into more impact as his 5-foot-11, 165 pound frame adds more muscle, but the contact skills and present twitch establish a safe floor offensively. He continues to improve as a defender with athleticism gains attributing to more lateral range. His hands are above average and there is some feel for the exchange as he gets into a more-slingy arm action to carry the ball across. It is still a bat-first type prospect, but he is beginning to elevate other areas of his game with a chance for those tools to tick higher and higher. |
Kaden Crumes SS / Yorktown High School, IN / 2027+ From 2025 Prospects Scout Day: I got a good look on Crumes during the spring and he backed that with strong metrics at this event. He looks stronger than his listed 5-foot-9, 155 pounds, evident in the twitch shown in the box that produced exits approaching 95 mph. He starts tall in the right-handed batters' box, making a short, controlled forward move with quiet hands that turn a tight, uphill barrel. His sub-7.00 60 (6.97) is a quality time for the age and there is some first-step quickness to indicate strength will help him run even better once underway. On the dirt, he brought a polished look with efficient feet, soft hands, and quickness to the transfer. |
Giovani Ardizzone SS / Roncalli High School, IN / 2027+ Lean and athletic at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, there is plenty of twitch in this operation that leads an impactful offensive profile. He posted huge numbers as a sophomore at Roncalli, and continued with quality looks throughout the circuit in 2026. His sixty times fluctuated from 6.69 to 6.82 in our showcase events last year, bringing another above average tool to pair with the bat. Defensively, his feet lead the profile with a rangy nature. Likely profiling at 2B, or as an OF long term, Gio will once again man the everyday SS job at Roncalli this spring with a chance to establish himself further with repeat production. |
Chase Nelson SS / Andrean, IN / 2027+ A LHH that we value highly for the bat, Nelson has done nothing but produce with the stick throughout a long follow, including as a mainstay for an Andrean program that returns to 2026 as the 3A defending State Champions. It is an undersized, compact, 5-foot-8, 175-pound frame that packs a punch from the left-side of the dish. The contact skills are excellent, and he has the ability to spray it across the yard with gap-to-gap strength. On the dirt, Nelson plays well-paced with the ball between his feet and fires accurately across in the mid-80s. He likely profiles best as a bat-first 2B, but the bat has a real shot to play in an impact fashion at the next level. |
Jackson Treadway SS / Carmel, IN / 2027+ Treadway is a highly-intriguing uncommitted shortstop likely to takeover at short for Carmel this spring after the departure of JD Stein. There is pristine projection to the high-waisted, 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame that draws comparisons to Trey Deckman in my evaluations, a 2026 grad signed to Ball State. The metrics do not wow, but the movement patterns set the stage for a big 2026. He makes the game look easy with sneaky strength in the direct right-handed swing and sure-handed actions on the dirt. |
Kasen Jessup SS / CF / Westfield, IN / 2027+ A utility-type that also made the cut amongst our Top 15 outfielders in the class, Jessup carries a confident aura to the box with real twitch and impact ability there. The twitchy, 5-foot-8, 165-pound frame packs a serious punch with upper-90s exits, pairing with a 6.74 60-time to bring a hit/speed profile that includes easy gap power. On the dirt, the feet standout most. It is a middle of the diamond athlete undoubtedly, with time likely to tell whether it is in CF, or in the middle on the dirt. |
Grady Harrell SS / Penn High School, IN / 2027+ From 2025 Landsharks Scout Day: Athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame with lean strength. Put together the best batting practice round of the day, showing improved barrel strength from previous looks. Super consistent round with a peak exit velocity of 94.8 mph, averaging 88.5. Starts slightly open with a short leg-kick stride, working a flatter path that stayed pull-side throughout BP. Ran a 6.82 (6.65 in the summer of 2025) in the 60 and showed an 83 mph arm across the diamond. Fundamental on the dirt with steady hands and clean footwork. |
Reid Walker SS / Bloomington South, IN / 2027+ From 2025 Fall State Games: Silky defender whose feet play on time on a consistent basis on the dirt. Infield arm plays with carry, up to 85 across, and there is feel to use multiple slots. Sure-handed nature stands out. Short, repeatable stroke with shades of impact, the bat-to-ball abilities shine most at the dish. Ran a 6.86 60. Overall, fundamental player that provides a high floor. |
