Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2026 OUTLOOK
+ West Union enters the 2026 season riding the momentum of a historic 2025 campaign that ended with a 21–13 record and the Class 1A State Championship. Under head coach Ashley Russell, the Eagles established themselves as one of the top programs in the classification and will look to carry that winning culture forward.
The roster brings back key pieces from the championship run, led by former Prep Baseball Future Gamer and two-way contributor Jon Grey Morrisson (2026, Itawamba CC signee), who provides experience and versatility on both sides of the ball. Jaxon Herod (2028) is another important returner and a familiar face with Prep Baseball. Herod offers huge upside as an infielder and right-handed arm as he continues to develop into one of the top prospects in the 2028 class.
Additional depth comes from a solid group of upperclassmen, including 2026s Mack Wallis and David Roberts, who will factor into the lineup and provide stability. The 2027 class features Tyson Henry and Jake Foreman, two names to monitor as they continue to grow into larger roles within the program.
With championship experience, proven leadership, and a mix of returning contributors and developing talent, West Union looks well-positioned to make another run and potentially defend its title and remain a major force in District 2-1A during the 2026 season.
