Q&A with Oklahoma State Commit Max Hamilton

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

RHP Max Hamilton (Olathe West, 2025) has consistently been one of the premier arms in the region in recent years and enters the final season of his prep career ready for another standout spring for an Olathe West program that has been among the state’s best. A recent Oklahoma State signee, Hamilton is a high-level strike thrower with feel for three pitches, highlighted by a fastball that has been up to 93 mph in front of our staff.

We recently had the chance to talk to Hamilton about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.

Our Q&A

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Max: When I was looking for my college I would make sure I would be able to be developed to my full potential, I would also look at the team and coaches and determine if that was the best fit for me.

PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

M: The family feel of the program is what drew me closer to Oklahoma State. Everything they do, they do as a team and that’s what I was looking for in a college.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

M: Take it slow you have lots of time to make sure you choose the right college for you.

PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

M: Yes it did, I was hoping on not going somewhere too far and I found the perfect place with the perfect distance.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

M: I would say it all started around my 8th grade/freshman year, I got invited to one of their camps and was able to get out infront of the coaches pretty young to build a good relationship with the coaches.

PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?

M: I would say the Lake Point tournaments were huge, there is a lot of attention at those games and it is a good time to go show out infront of the scouts.

PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

M: Tennessee, Miami, Ole Miss

PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

M: Beau Peterson was probably the best player I’ve faced. I say that because he is strong and able to hit to all sides of the field which makes him a touch opponent to face.

PB: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?

M: I would probably take Zane Shaw's slider

PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

M: I would say Carter Taldo would be a good guy to watch.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

M: Definitely going into high school is where I started taking the game more serious.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

M: My most memorable moment in baseball so far would probably be when I threw a no hitter in my sophomore year high school game.

PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

M: I think we should be able make it pretty far, we lost a lot of good arms but I think the younger guys can come in and make an impact this year.
