Texas State Games Underclass: Infielder Analysis

On Saturday, November 8th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, to host the Texas State Games: Underclass, an invite-only event for the class of 2028 and 2029.
More than 80 players made their way to Sam Houston this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout as well as gameplay, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, while receiving in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.
We've already posted a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting more of the traditional statistical categories, as well as a Takeaways, highlighting some of the events top performers, while also posting Data Dives for both Pitchers and Position Players.
Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every infielder in attendance as well as rank the top 12 middle infielders and the top 5 corner infielders from the event.
TOP MIDDLE INFIELD PROSPECTS
1. Landon Bonner, Hebron (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/2B LHH/middle of field player. SS/2B or CF Great build/frame to add strength. Athletic, quickness to movements/actions. Plus runner, accelerates well, will get his share of SB's. Defensive versatility present, stays in the middle of diamond on the infield or play CF. Shows ability barrel baseball with line drive contact. Power will develop. Shows hit ability every time seen. Prospect, player to watch develop over next couple of years.
Body: 5-7, 148 pounds. Great build/frame to add strength in future. Quickness with developing explosiveness. Projects well physically.
Hit: LHH. Good hit approach. Lands in good position after stride, nice use of lower 1/2 with rotational back foot. Hits into firm front leg with stride foot into ground. Nice job of hitting from ground up. Everything on time. Nice use of core in swing creating rotational acceleration. Hands and barrel in good launch position. Barrel works back slightly creating slight uphill path. 67.3 mph bat speed with 22g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 98 mph max exit velocity (91.5 avg.); 356-foot max batted distance. Solid bat/power combo in future. Nice hit approach, swing works with consistent ability to make hard contact, hit all year. Will continue to develop as strength is added.
Arm: RH. INF - 86 mph. Arm works, shows carry to throws. Ability to make throws from all angles. Look for raw arm strength to continue to develop.
Defense: Developing actions, feet work well getting to baseball, breaks down well, nice job playing thru ball. Glove tap present, fields ball deep at times, work to eliminate glove tap.
Athletic Testing: 6.78 runner in the 60-yard dash; 25.90-inch max vertical jump. Solid stride and run form. Plus runner now, look for speed to continue to increase. Quickness to start, will get his share of SB's.
