Texas State Games Underclass: Outfielder Analysis

On Saturday, November 8th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, to host the Texas State Games: Underclass, an invite-only event for the class of 2028 and 2029.
More than 80 players made their way to Sam Houston this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout as well as gameplay, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, while receiving in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every outfielder in attendance as well as rank the top 8 from the event.
TOP OUTFIELD PROSPECTS
1. Hudson Brown, China Spring (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/1B LHH/CF Projects well physically. Plus runner, will continue to add speed. Athletic. Solid defender with ability to play all 3 OF spots, reads ball off barrel showing range. Strong confidence in bat/power in future. Shows ability to impact baseball now. Watch develop.
Body: 6-0, 190 pounds. Good build/frame to add strength, width to shoulders and back. Projects well physically.
Hit: LHH. Loads into back leg with stride, stride foot lands slightly closed. Solid use of lower 1/2 in swing with rotational back foot. Hits into firm front leg, stride foot stays into ground. Slight lay back to body at contact helping to create uphill path. Barrel/hands in good launch position. Little scoop swing movement to swing, work to get barrel on direct path to hit zone. Solid bat/hand speed, will continue to develop with added strength and physical maturity. 66.5 mph bat speed with 12g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 mph max exit velocity (84.6 avg.); 360-foot max batted distance. Solid bat/power combo. Great base to develop and make couple adjustments. Upside present.
Arm: LH. OF - 85 mph. Arm works well, nice job setting feet to throw. Gets quick with front side at times causing arm to drag and throws to tail. Stay behind baseball with hand for carry.
Defense: Moves well to baseball, breaks down well to field, fields ball off right leg, out front. Shows ability to run ball down in gaps.
Athletic Testing: 6.90 runner in the 60-yard dash; 20.80-inch max vertical jump. Solid start, hard runner, good stride length. Upright runner last 30 yards, work to get chin down when running. Plus runner now.
