Q&A with Tennessee Commit Tyler Putnam
December 23, 2025
RHP Tyler Putnam (Battle, 2026) is a high-ceiling arm currently ranked No. 2 in Missouri’s 2026 class, standing at 6-foot-5 with a loose, athletic delivery and plenty of projection remaining. The right-hander works comfortably in the low-90s and has touched 94 mph, pairing his fastball with a curveball/changeup mix that shows feel and swing-and-miss potential.
We recently had the chance to talk to Putnam about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.
Our Q&A
Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Tyler: I was looking for the best program possible that I believe would put me in the absolute best position come draft day.
PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
T: The environment surrounding Tennessee baseball is unbeatable, it’s everything you could ever want when deciding which program you want to represent. As well, the staff makes it pretty easy to realize that they are going to make you better everyday.
PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
T: Stay patient, focus on the little things and carry yourself with humility and the drive necessary to see improvements in your game.
PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
T: Around the time I was 13 or 14.
PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?
T: 1000% the Future Games, most eyes at an event I’ve ever had on me and it payed off.
PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
T: Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi State, TCU, Kentucky
PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
T: Jordan Martin, he was so poised and calm on the mound and in the box that he was by far the toughest out I’ve ever had to face.
PB: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?
T: Nolan Sissom's fielding tools.
PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?
PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
T: Probably around 12 or 13.
PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
T: Pitching in Camden Yards this past summer.
PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
T: Hard to tell right now, we’ve got a lot to find out about our selves, we will be young and short handed on arms but I think we will get by just fine.
