The 2026 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2026 OUTLOOK
+ Mize enters the 2026 season with experience, depth on the mound, and a strong core of multi-position athletes that give Head Coach Justin Ainsworth plenty of versatility. Coming off a 21–10 season and a Second Round playoff appearance, the Bulldogs return the bulk of their roster and look poised to make another strong push in District 6-2A.
The lineup will once again be anchored by a large group of returning starters, highlighted by Trey Myers (2026, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC commit) and Garrison Carrell (2027), two key two-way leaders who impact the game on both sides of the ball. They’re joined by a deep 2027 class including Holder McAlpin (East Central CC commit), Walker Sullivan, Josiah Ainsworth, Graham Davis, Will Duckworth, Cale Tudor, and Parker Himmel (2028), giving Mize one of the most experienced position groups in the area.
Pitching should be a major strength, with a rotation and bullpen that return nearly every meaningful arm from last year’s playoff run. McAlpin, Myers, Carrell, Tudor, Davis, and Duckworth headline a deep 2027-heavy staff, while Brendon Street (2028) and Colston Barnes (2029) add even more depth as underclass arms who are expected to take steps forward.
The Bulldogs also bring several intriguing names into the mix. The 2027 class adds more help in Hendrix Magee, Cooper Freeman, and Mayes Mangum, all of whom offer two-way value. A strong group of underclass newcomers—Matthew Gibson (2028), Brendon Blakeney (2028), Trey Pittman (2029), Coleston Barnes (2029), Noah Gilpin (2029), Logan Blackwell, Aiden Blakeney, and Knox Mangum—will provide additional depth and athleticism across the diamond.
With a veteran core, a stocked pitching staff, and a promising wave of young talent, Mize has the tools to make noise once again and potentially push deeper into the postseason in 2026.
