Inside the UT Class of 2027 Rankings: Risers

Taylor Berg
Utah Scouting Director

This week, Utah's updated Class of 2027 rankings went live, now extended through the Top 115. While the top of the list continues to feature familiar names, several players outside that range made significant jumps.

Today we’re highlighting the biggest risers. Each of these players has taken a step forward this year, whether through added strength, sharper tools, or consistent in game production. Their development has been steady and noticeable, and the momentum is pushing them firmly onto the radar heading into the Spring.

Here’s a look at some of the standouts making noise in the latest update!

NOTABLE RISERS

RANK
PLAYERS
HIGH SCHOOL POSITION
COMMITMENT
18 Roah Wall Desert Hills LHP Air Force

Roah has made one of the biggest jumps in the past 12 months, earning him an opportunity to play his future collegiate baseball for Air Force Academy. The physical, imposing left-hander features a firm FB in the mid 80s with tons of spin and a feel for his secondary pitches. Spring 2026 stands to be a monster season for the Thunder Junior.

22 Kavyn Carter Maple Mountain RHP  College of Southern ID

Kavyn climbs the rankings significantly this time around, moving up 31 spots and into the top 25. The 6’3 right-hander displayed elite upside from the mound, with a live, loose arm action that will absolutely continue to add velocity in the near future. Kavyn is a very athletic prospect with a high ceiling, and he found a collegiate fit at CSI where he should be a starter type as soon as he walks on campus.

31 Sam Chappell Crimson Cliffs SS Utah Valley

Sam has recently moved from ID to Saint George, UT, this Fall and will attend Crimson Cliffs HS. Sam is a strong athlete with high upside and a projectable skill-set. At 5’11 170 lbs with room for added growth, the frame and athleticism are very intriguing and were too much to ignore for reigning WAC Champions, Utah Valley. The future Wolverine continues to improve and joins a loaded Crimson squad that he should step into and play a crucial role for.

39 Burkon Beus Layton OF

One of the biggest jumps up the rankings this time around is Layton newcomer, Burkon Beus. We got our first look at Burk at our Fall Top Prospects Games, where his athletic upside really shined and his workout impressed. He ended up posting the best 60 time of the event (6.65), which also ended up being the top recorded time in the state for all of 2025. Consider Burkon and Layton HS a must follow this Spring!

46 Jack Salmon Wasatch SS

Jack continues to invest in the offseason and improve upon his game, which he put on display Summer -> Fall. He posted several new metric personal bests, including a loud 101.2 EV during the BP portion of the workout at our Fall Top Prospects Games last November. You can see the athletic upside and his activity online continues to give us a glimpse into this offseason work. We expect a breakout type of Spring for the Wasatch Junior.

47 Gaven Neill Riverton RHP

Gaven has been a consistent arm in the Summer and Fall club circuits the last few years, but he really solidified himself as an arm to follow the last few months. From the mound is where he really shines and projects well. The right-hander features a live arm that has shown on multiple occasions, an elite spin rate on his breaking ball, consistently 2800+ and flashing above 3000 at his peak. The arm talent is very intriguing, and we expect a heavy workload this Spring for Gaven for a loaded Riverton squad.

66 Cole Marchant Crimson Cliffs LHP

At our West Coast Games this Fall at LMU, Cole showcased his physical upside and represented himself well on the mound. At 6’1 200 lbs, there is present strength and a strong foundation that he utilizes consistently. The FB sits in the low 80s right now but with added development in a strong Crimson program, we expect the velocity to continue to climb over the next two years. His ability to change speeds, eye levels and feature a 2nd and 3rd pitch, Cole has proven tough to barrel and someone we anticipate throwing crucial innings this upcoming Spring.

71 Reese Dubach Copper Hills OF

Reese is a newcomer to the rankings this time around, largely in part due to his participation and results in the recent Fall Top Prospects Games at UVU. The Copper Hills Junior showcased some athleticism and physical upside, posting a 6.9 during the 60 and a repeatable swing from the right side. Keep your eye on Reese as we move into 2026, as he should be in line for a breakout year.

76 Cole Hill Park City OF

Cole is another newcomer to our Winter 2027 Rankings after we got a couple looks at him throughout the Fall, most recently at our Fall Top Prospects Games. The 6’1 Junior has an athletic, broad shouldered frame that has ample room for added growth, which should see his already impressive power numbers continue to improve. He stays behind the ball very well, generating consistent backspin and natural loft through the zone. With Cole’s physical upside and projectable swing, keep your eye on his upcoming Spring season.

100 CJ Rampton Ridgeline 2B/RHP

CJ put together a solid workout at our Fall Top Prospects Games at UVU last November. At 5’10 145 lbs with an athletic frame, there is ample room for added growth and you can count on significant growth in the Ridgeline program that puts players in college baseball every year. CJ kept the bat flat through the zone and flashed quality bat to ball skills with sound defensive actions, he will be one to follow moving forward.
