Q&A with Missouri Commit Jake Brettschneider

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

RHP Jake Brettschneider (Francis Howell) is one of the top arms in the state, ranking inside the top 15 of our current senior class and serving as a crucial piece of a dominant Francis Howell pitching staff. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound right-hander offers plenty of projection and features a lively arsenal highlighted by a fastball up to 90 mph and a 2,400+ RPM swing and miss slider.

We recently had the chance to talk to Brettschneider about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.

Our Q&A

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Jake: My expectations about the recruiting process was to find a school where I really connected with the coaches and they believed that I could impact their program.

PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

J: The coaches at Mizzou are the biggest reason on why [I] committed and the development of pitching really stood out to me.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

J: Stay consistent in your work even when you don’t think it’s paying off because in the long run, it will lead you a lot farther.

PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

J: Not really, any place I had a chance to play.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

J: My freshman summer was when it started, but after the Future Games when the rule lifted, my recruiting process got even better. Mizzou first saw me play in a travel tournament in Joplin, Missouri.

PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?

J: The Junior Future Games was a good start to getting my name out there, and the Future Games helped me out the most.

PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

J: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Cincinnati

PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

J: Nolan Sissom was always tough to get out with his disciplined approach.

PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

J: Jack Bogard is a very talented player out Francis Howell and GBA.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

J: My freshman year was when I realized I had a chance to go play collegiate level baseball.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

J: My most memorable moment was going to state my freshman and sophomore year with some of my best friends and competing.

PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

J: I seriously believe that we have the talent to win State this year and we are going to be a top 25 team nationally.
