2027 TOP-10 UNCOMMITTED: Corner Infielders

Max Stewart 1B / OF / CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC SAN DIEGO, CA / 2027 |
|
Jake Kim 1B / OF / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2027From 5/31/25: “We heard plenty about Jake Kim throughout the spring as he earned second-team all Mission League honors with a league-leading tally of seven home runs and plenty of extra base hit production. Standing at 5-foot-11 and 203 lbs, Kim has a strong and built frame, starting with his lower half. The bat is what draws the eye, Kim displayed arguably the best and most consistent BP of the day. He peppered the gaps and drove balls out to dead center and to the pull side. Kim registered a max EV of 101.6 mph while averaging 96.7 mph throughout his two rounds of swings. His max distance clocked in at 398 ft. The swing is explosive with strong and quick hands and an engaged lower half. In game, Kim posted multiple competitive at-bats, collecting a hard line drive single in his first at-bat of the game. The ability to generate consistent hard contact to all fields is equally impressive as the gap-to-gap power potential.” |

Jacob Melendez 1B / LHP / Norco High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 66 / POS: 3
From 1/5/25: “The former Jr. Future Games standout has continued to show development in every viewing since the trip to Georgia. With up close looks in the early fall and now in January, it’s easy to anticipate a monster sophomore season for Melendez. A legitimate two-way player, it’s hard to decide where he stood out more during the event. As a pitcher he touched 87 mph with the fastball while twirling a sharp, whiff inducing, 80 mph slider, Melendez finished his outing with the following line: 3U, backwards K, 4-3, L4, backwards K. Soft contact and befuddled hitters. At the dish he appears to be getting to his power a little more consistently. The barrel control is also much improved as he showed in-game where he was out in front and managed to lag the barrel behind and get enough of it on the ball to pull it through the right side for a base hit.” |

Cade McElmoyl 3B / RHP / Exeter Union High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 79 / POS: 2
From 6/1/25: “Cade McElmoyl, a 2027 3B/RHP from Exeter Union, turned heads at the Prep Baseball Future Games Tryout in NorCal this past weekend. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 183 pounds, his athletic frame projects well for future physical development. In the infield, McElmoyl showcased a strong arm with a top velocity of 87 mph, paired with smooth footwork and reliable hands, making him a solid defender at third base. On the mound, his fastball ranged 84-86 mph with a spin rate of 2150 RPM, showing good command and potential for growth as he adds strength. His curveball, sitting 69-71 mph with a 2250 RPM spin rate, displayed tight 11/5 break and swing-and-miss potential. At the plate, McElmoyl posted a max exit velocity of 96.9 mph (91.3 mph average) and a max batted distance of 369 feet, highlighting above-average power with a gap-to-gap approach. McElmoyl had a streak of about 5-6 balls in BP where he was hitting them off of the hitters eye in centerfield, it was crazy to see that much power potential. His 60-yard dash time of 7.28 seconds reflects solid speed for his size. Grip strength measured at 110 pounds, indicating good bat control and potential for increased power output. Defensively versatile and a true two-way talent, McElmoyl’s combination of arm strength, hitting prowess, and athleticism marks him as a high-upside prospect in the 2027 class.” |

Bobby Ramirez 3B / SS / Pacifica High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 80 / POS: 3
From 4/4/25: “Ramirez was a key cog throughout the Tritons impressive 2024 run in the Channel League and during the CIF playoffs. This year he has built on his solid first year by making some ticks up with his athleticism and the operation of his swing. The RH hitter has consistently displayed a sound bat to ball profile with a feel to use the whole field for solid contact (evidenced by multiple live looks and several strong Prep Baseball California event performances). Now in my second look at him this spring the tick up in his bat speed was apparent and it helped to generate more impact while getting the barrel in the zone quicker, but staying in the zone longer. Ramirez is using the ground more effectively in the turn which helped keep his upper body behind contact (last year there was a slight lean forward at contact) which showed up when he laced a line drive to LCF through the stiff wind for a 2 RBI single (which proved to be the winning hit as the Tritons held on for a 2-1 win). The ball is coming off the bat with more authority even on his misses as he stung a pair of hard one hoppers to the middle infielders over his next two at bats. Still just a Soph. the profile for Ramirez is continuing to head in the right direction as a next level player.” |

Elliot Cresap 1B / LHP / Upland High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 96 / POS: 5
From 4/12/25: “Cresap catches your eye quickly for his imposing frame standing at what appears to be 6’4 with a 215 lbs. frame which has a solid present build, but has plenty of room for projection to add strength. From there his INF/OF was solid at 1B with good hands and presenting a large target for INF throws with confidence in his footwork around the bag. What stood out the most for me in this first look at the Upland two-way product was his LH bat. It’s an uphill swing with a feel for lofting the baseball to the OF and shows solid present bat speed, but has room to improve as he understands his body better while adding strength. He has posted solid present numbers with a feel to hit, but as he taps into the power potential in his profile the upside of Cresap is highly interesting to me as a possible impact LH hitter in the future.” |

Nico Busalacchi 1B / RHP / Del Oro High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 116 / POS: 6
From 6/10/25: “Busalacchi is coming off a long season with his Del Oro team, I got the chance to see Nico a couple times during the season and he’s one of the more impressive left handed bats in the ‘27 class. Busalacchi stands at 6’0” 216.9 lbs with a grip strength of 136 on both hands. During the defensive part of the workout, Busalacchi displayed good footwork at first base, with an infield velocity of 79 mph, showing he can get the ball across the diamond and to second base. Busalacchi was by far one of the most talented bats of the day, blasting balls all over the field at Franklin High School, which is a very big yard. Busalacchi had a max EV of 104.5 mph, even poking a home run out the opposite way during BP. His average EV was 98.3 mph which was an event best, his max distance was 379ft, with an impressive hard hit rate of 92.3%. For the size of Busalacchi he will surprise you with some speed, he ran a 7.39 60 yard dash with a run speed of 18.2 mph. Lefty first baseman who can swing it are always a hot commodity, Busalacchi is set to have a huge summer, I think once he figures out his bat to ball skills and gets the average up a little, he’s going to be a very dangerous hitter in the next upcoming years.” |

Tyler Brereton 3B / Arcadia High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 119 / POS: 5
|
|
Jacory Smith 3B / 1B / Foothill Technology, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 137 / POS: 6
From 3/22/25: “Another strong 2027 product for the Dragons, Smith has impressed over two Prep Baseball California events and three live looks at him with his strong LH hitting presence. His swing is compact with sound present bat speed and a consistent feel for hard contact while showing the feel to get his barrel to stay in the zone for a long time allowing for line to line impact. The swing has shown leverage from the middle to opposite side of the field, but has flashed loft to the pull-side which should grow into HR power as he learns to get to contact out front on middle/inner half pitches. Once again in was a pair of strong at bats with a barreled L-8 right at the CF and then a hard two hopper up the middle that the Castaic SS stole a hit from him on with a great play. The offensive profile was one I quickly became convinced was a college level tool for him, the bigger question for me was the future home for Smith defensively being a corner profile athlete. Now having seen him defend in LF for a pair of games the arm is strong for the spot, the comfort in his angles/reads off the bat shows solid to strong range, he is confident moving around out there and looks like a future strong defender in an OF corner to go with a solid 3B defensive profile the versatility provides more options to get his bat into a lineup in the future where he can make a strong impact. When the 2027 class becomes a focus for college programs the name Jacory Smith is one that they should take a look into for their LH bat needs.” |
