Top-10 Profiles of 2025: No. 6 Kayson Cunningham
December 24, 2025
Checking in at No. 6 for our top profiles of 2025 is the state's former No. 1 ranked prospect and the country's No. 3 ranked prospect, INF Kayson Cunningham (SA Johnson, 2025; Arizona Diamondbacks).
Before going 18th overall to the Diamondbacks in this year’s MLB draft, Cunningham was tearing it up for the San Antonio Johnson Jaguars. One of the more impressive swings and hit tools I have seen from a HS player.
He never takes a pitch off, competing every moment he is on the diamond. Wants to win each pitch. We are big Kayson Cunningham fans at Prep Baseball Texas.
From 5/14/25: "Cunningham has been fun to watch since he was a freshman playing left field, waiting for the SS spot to open. It was apparent from day 1 that he was going to hit, and hit a lot he did. There is a different sound off the bat from the LHH. He has plus bat speed and the barrel stays in the zone for a long time, combined with good pitched recognition, a combo most hitters dream of. He smoked a single up the middle in this look, and later caught one off the end of the bat and beat out the throw to 1st. Cunningham has an exciting future ahead."
