Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at the state tournament championships – but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2026 OUTLOOK

+ Coalfield enters the 2026 season with championship expectations after an outstanding 31–7 campaign in 2025 that ended as the Class A State Runner-Up. Under head coach Andy Lowe, the Yellow Jackets return a battle-tested core and plenty of arms, positioning them once again as one of the top programs in District 3 and across the state.

A strength of this roster remains its versatility, with multiple returning players capable of contributing on both sides of the ball. Waylon Burgess (2026) anchors the group as a proven arm and athletic outfield presence, while Jackson Treece (2027) and Knox Pemberton (2028) add value as pitcher-infield, two-way guys who give Coalfield flexibility throughout the lineup. Catcher Jordan Steinhauer (2027) returns to provide stability behind the plate and leadership to a pitching staff that logged significant innings last spring.

On the mound, the Yellow Jackets bring back several reliable arms from their state runner-up run. Burgess and Treece headline the staff, joined by Eli Coleman (2029), who showed maturity on the mound at a young age, and JJ Caudill (2026), another experienced right-hander who will factor heavily into the rotation.

Additional depth comes from the 2027 class with Bo Wilson, a pitcher/infielder who continues to develop, while underclassman Knox Pemberton (2028) stands out as an impact returner ready to take on an expanded role.

With a deep pitching staff, multiple two-way contributors, and experience from a state championship run, Coalfield looks well-positioned to make another push toward the top of District 3 and remain a statewide contender during the 2026 season.
