Today, Prep Baseball Washington wraps up our final series of rankings updates this year. After updating the 2026 and 2028 ranks lists, as well as unveiling our first edition of 2029 rankings, we conclude with our update for the class of 2027.

The Washington junior class continues to evolve into a deep and highly skilled class, with 125 prospects earning their way onto our latest list. Several players at the top of the ranks have made high-level college commitments, with several more commitments expected soon as we head into the new calendar year. Familiar Names Hold Strong at the Top

The Washington top ten remains the same in our winter update, with several players committing to their respective college programs in the last few months. Union High School RHP Rylan Howe headlines the top ten, committing to the University of Oregon after his exceptional 2025. Howe was seen at two of the summer's premier events, first in Georgia at the Prep Baseball Future Games and later in Vancouver at PNW State Games. The 6'4, 210 pound prospect sat 90-92 T 92.9 at his best with some cutting action to his fastball. Howe kills spin well on a CH/SPL in the high 70's and has shown increased feel for a SL at 76-78 MPH as well. Howe worked through some quicker innings and pitched to contact against the nation's best in Georgia before displaying more swing and miss in Vancouver. Howe's steady demeanor and efficiency on the mound were unmatched in his standout year.

The number two ranked player in the class, Puyallup INF Brayden Landry has committed to the University of Washington since our last rankings update. Landry is an ultra-quick, twitchy athlete with a plus glove at shortstop. The speed is always a factor and can impact a game, and his bat-to-ball skills from the right side of the plate were seen at this summer's PNW Scout Games.

Three players in the top ten currently remain uncommitted and are sure to draw the attention of college recruiters heading into 2026. Sumner RHP/OF Wyatt Plyler is our top-ranked uncommitted prospect, coming in at number three in the overall ranks. The multi-sport athlete recently took home his second straight state title as a football player, with high-end physicality and athleticism translating to the diamond. The tools are as loud as any player in the class, including a 6.5 run time, triple digit exit velocities, and a fastball that has been up to 90 MPH on the mound. Plyler was seen at PNW Preseason All-State and PNW Scout Games this year.

Notable Newcomers

15 players earned a spot in the 2027 rankings for the first time in our latest update. Emerald Ridge RHP Jackson Dion is the highest debutee after generating significant buzz on the mound this fall. A power arm in a 6'4 frame, Dion's fastball has touched into the upper 80's with a diverse pitch mix and starter's mold shown. Dion will be a name Prep Baseball is circling heading into the '26 high school season as a breakout candidate.

University High School infielder Luca Longo also makes his rankings debut. The righty produced all spring long at or near the top of the Titans order, with a shorter, contact-oriented approach yielding positive results in multiple in-game looks. With another offseason of adding strength and physicality, Longo could make another jump heading into next spring.

Seen at the PNW Fall Games, Union junior Ryan McPherson also makes his rankings debut, coming in ranked #98. A lean, high-waisted 6'1 prospect, McPherson showed two-way ability in Vancouver. On the mound, McPherson leaned mostly on his fastball and slider, moving well and working the heater up to 84 MPH to both sides of the plate. A 7.2 runner, McPherson also posted exit velocities into the low 90's and carries enough arm to play anywhere on the infield at the high school level.

Sleepers and Breakout Candidates

Several prospects may be poised to make big time noise heading into the 2026 high school season, and #24 ranked RHP Tanner Carlsen certainly falls under that list. A 6'3 arm with a loud arsenal, Carlsen features a tighter, compact arm action and hides the ball well, leading to some added life on a fastball that has been seen into the upper 80's. The Skyview arm is a multi-sport athlete and exceptional student who could take another jump in stuff on the mound with a productive offseason. Carlsen will be attending his first Prep Baseball event at PNW Preseason All-State this February.

Another low mileage arm with immense upside, Bellarmine RHP Joshua Morales is an arm that could legitimately compete for all-state honors with the right adjustments. Morales features a fastball into the upper 80's with added life thanks to plus extension down the mound. The lower spin arsenal should play well to the bottom of the zone with a CH/CB/SL combination shown at an event earlier this year. If Morales can compete in the strike zone more consistently, he could propel his way further up the '27 ranks, where he currently sits ranked #36 overall.

Few position players near the middle of the rankings offer more upside than '27 OF Hudson Thom. The lefthander has had limited varsity action to this point at one of the deepest high school programs in the state. However, Prep Baseball staff is bullish on Thom's potential to provide impact for Tahoma in 2026. Thom is a 6.86 runner in the 60 with a power profile fit for a corner. The lefty swing stays balanced and maximizes output with exit velocities up to 101.2 MPH this summer. With a productive spring, Thom is primed for a jump up the next rankings list update.
