With the end of the year right around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to highlight players who stood out to our staff throughout the year - whether it was at an event, a tournament, or a game in the spring. Today, we continue our rollout with a look at some of the position player winners from the 2026 class.
Position Player Winners
|
Landon Thome SS / 2B / Nazareth Academy, IL / 2026From 5/10/25: “Tennessee commit. Currently ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 181 nationally. Lean and athletic 6-foot, 185-pound frame with room for added strength in the future. Batted leadoff and played shortstop for Naz. Thome continues to look like one of the top hitters in the country each time we see him, with this game being no different. The left-handed hitter has a mature approach at the plate with an advanced feel to hit. Thome rarely expanded the zone, and found the barrel in his final two plate appearances, tallying a single and a triple to center field that nearly left the yard. Defensively, his athleticism continues to stand out with evident range up the middle paired with natural actions and a strong/accurate arm across the infield. Thome continues to cement himself as one of the top players in the midwest.” |

Ethan Bass SS / RHP / Glenbrook North, IL / 2026From 5/24/25: “Wake Forest commit, currently ranked No. 2 in Illinois and No. 33 in the country. 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame, lean with twitch and more room to add strength, highly athletic. Started at shortstop and hit out of the two-hole, finishing the day 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. The right-handed hitter has notable present bat-speed in his swing with athletic hands, staying back on spin and seeing it deep to drive it the other way for a double. Gave plus run-times throughout the day with a 4.19 down the line and 4.63 on a turn. Shortstop profile at the next level, confident hands with rhythm and timing, fluid feet with easy range to both sides of the glove, crisp glove-to-hand and transfers, makes double-play turns look easy to all angles. Arm can play on the move and from different slots, plays with easy strength and is quick to release. High-profile middle infield prospect, extremely versatile athlete that can impact the game in multiple ways, will be a draft follow this coming year.” |
|
Dominic Battista OF / SS / Oswego East, IL / 2026From 8/05/25: “OF Dominic Battista (Oswego East, 2026; Illinois-Chicago commit) continued to stand out in all facets for our staff. He has a hitterish presence in the box, shows an advanced understanding of the strike zone, and showed minimal swing and miss in the zone. A willing and aggressive base-stealer, Battista also grabbed five bags in the three games during the event. To round out his stellar performance, Battista continued to play advanced defense in centerfield that our staff has become accustomed to seeing in the past. A high-level player who could garner pro interest next spring.” |
|
Kaeden Schatsiek OF / RHP / Brimfield, IL / 2026From 8/05/25: “RHP/OF Kaeden Schatsiek (Brimfield, 2026), the Northern Illinois commit, capped off the Illinois State games with potentially one of the lousiest performances on the mound Wednesday night. The built, 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame tossed his two innings, collecting six strikeouts and allowing one hit, in a dominant performance. The right-hander worked out of the stretch only, working quick down the hill with a high leg kick. Then the arm worked quick and easy with short arm action from a ¾ slot. Working with an electric two-pitch mix, the fastball was up to 92mph, sitting lower 90s, playing with tons of life, getting up to 23 inches of IVB. The slider was dominant, sitting lower 80s with a sharp gyro profile with 2300 RPMs. Beating hitters with ease, Schatsiek was working with tons of confidence on the mound, getting whiffs with the slider and making hitters look uncomfortable. Schatsiek also showed upside on the position-side of things throughout the event. He topped out at 94 mph from the outfield (2nd highest for the event), while leading the entire event in max EV (108.3 mph) and also posting an average EV of 95.2 mph - all with a wood bat. Schatsiek’s bat would show well in-game as well, collecting a couple hits while being on the barrel on more than one occasion.” |

Athlete, translates to the basepaths, recorded a 4.18 on a turn. Confident glove up the middle, easy range, clean actions and an accurate arm. High-level prospect that seemingly has plenty of untapped potential still to come. To add, on Monday June 9th, barreled a ball off the centerfield wall for a triple.” |
|
Cory Les SS / 3B / St. Laurence, IL / 2026From 6/19/25: “Louisville commit, currently ranked No. 17 in the state and No. 449 nationally. Strong 6-foot-1, 205-pound athletic frame. Started in center and hit out of the four-hole. Les was impactful on Saturday afternoon as he went 1-for-3 at the plate while coming around to score two runs. The left-handed hitter operates from a wide, balanced stance with no stride. Strong hands with pull-side power from a pure swing that has a flat path. Whole field approach. Connected on a single into left field in his second at-bat. Continues to be an all around weapon.” |

He got the start on the bump in Thursday’s 9-0 win, only allowing one hit and one walk in a five inning shutout. The right-hander only operated out of the stretch, utilizing an explosive lower half with a deceptive cross-fire landing, while working from a compact ¾ arm action. He was able to consistently miss barrels throughout the game with his four-pitch mix, securing eight strikeouts and showing a high feel for spin. His fastball played heavy, sitting 88-91 mph and showed up to 2456 rpm. He also utilized a tight 11/5 curveball at 72-74 mph at 2218 rpm, a sharp horizontal slider at 78-80 mph that was up to 2461 rpm, and a downer changeup at 80-82 mph that he killed spin on. He also showed off some easy power at the plate throughout the tournament. Duncheon finished 6-for-13 at the plate, with two home runs, eight RBIs, four runs scored, and two walks. Another impressive performance from one of the top two-ways in Illinois.” |

Presenting a strong 6-foot-2, 199-pound frame, he led the event in pop time posting times as low as 1.78 seconds and also led the event in catcher velocity (84 mph). He took one of the loudest rounds of the day with a 103.8 mph peak EV, working on the barrel routinely with five balls hammered over 102 mph. His BLAST metrics were off the charts, averaging 23.7 mph for his hand-speed and 81.3 mph for his bat-speed, also averaging 27.5 G for his rotational acceleration. The hit tool is very evident, but he also features a smooth glove at first base with feel for the position and natural actions. Left/left center fielder hit in the three-hole. Would be a high-level prospect in the 2026 class if he chose the baseball route. Loose, fluid overall mover, long-strided and easy overall athlete. Has presence and is selectively aggressive in the box. Faced a left/left matchup until his final at-bat. Quality at-bats throughout the game and seemed to elevate his game in his final at-bat facing 88-90 mph fastball. Bat speed seemed to tick up and after fouling a fastball straight back, fought a single off into left field for a single. Finished 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, a stolen base and a walk. Had him sub-4.40 down the line on a double down the right-field line; fluid runner, cuts the first base bag with ease on the turn. Defensively, runs plenty good enough to profile in center field. Handled everything his way with ease. Arm plays above-average and with a loose arm stroke. Accurate with carry. High-level 2026 prospect with a strong overall showing in our first look in the last couple of years.” |
