As the calendar turns toward 2026, it’s only fitting to look back and reflect on what has been a memorable year for baseball in the Bayou State. With 2025 coming to a close, our staff has revisited the standout moments that defined the past twelve months. In the spirit of reflection, we’re kicking off our Year in Review by unveiling the Top 5 Moments of 2025—from eye-opening performances at our showcase events to the unforgettable highlights of the spring high school season. LOUISIANA TOP 5 MOMENTS OF 2025

#4: Catholic BR's Dominant Run to Back-to-Back State Titles

Catholic BR Head Coach Brad Bass has built a perennial powerhouse at 855 Hearthstone Drive, and 2025 proved to be another banner year for the Bears. They rolled through the regular season with a 29–5 record and once again entered the Select Division I playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed. The road to a championship was anything but easy, however, as Catholic BR faced a gauntlet of the state’s traditional “blue bloods.”

In the quarterfinals, the Bears dispatched John Curtis in two games to set up a semifinal showdown with St. Thomas More. Catholic BR left no doubt, sweeping the Cougars with a dominant combined scoring margin of 25–9. That performance paved the way for a highly anticipated state championship series against Brother Martin—the one team many believed had the best chance to dethrone the Bears.

Instead, Catholic BR rose to the moment with two masterful outings on the mound. Senior Bennett Smith opened the series with a brilliant 69-pitch complete-game shutout in a 2–0 Game 1 win. Junior Lucas Lawrence followed with a complete game of his own in Game 2, securing an 8–1 victory and delivering the Bears their third Select Division I state title in the last four years.
