Game Recap: Pope vs. River Ridge
February 13, 2020
Emerson, GA - In an action-packed night at LakePoint on Wednesday, the preseason No. 12 Pope Greyhounds took on the River Ridge Knights in a game that showed plenty of talent on both sides of the field. After River Ridge took an early 1-0 lead that took them to the fifth inning, the Greyhounds put the pressure on and came away with a 5-1 victory to start their regular season.
Pope sent out their left-hander, Reid Robertson, on the mound and Robertson did not disappoint. The 2020 Dallas Baptist recruit turned in a solid first start of the season by going 4 IP, 5 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 1 ER.
The lone run of the game, for the Knights, came in the top of the first inning thanks to Columbus State recruit, Carson Bell.

Robertson carried his velocity well throughout the outing, living 84-86 while mixed in well-located secondary pitches to stay more than competitive.

Robertson’s counterpart, Jared Woodward, turned in a great outing of his own. Woodward challenged hitters all night by staying in the zone with all pitches and working both sides of the plate. The 2020 Spalding recruit showed to be a reliable arm for the Knights moving forward this spring. Woodward finished his night by going 3.2 IP, 1 H, 5 K, 0 R.
River Ridge threatened in the top of the third inning when uncommitted 2020 infielder, Kobe Braddock, picked up his second hit of the night. After scooting past the Pope left fielder, Braddock ended up on third base, but the Knights were unable to capitalize.

The Pope offense got things rolling in the bottom of the fifth inning and did not look back. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2021 Peyton Cariaco scored the first Greyhounds run of the game with an infield single up-the-middle.
With a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, Danny Crabtree closed the door to give Pope the victory, while also picking up the win on the mound. Crabtree had an impressive showing out of the bullpen going 3 IP, 1 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 0 R.
