PB South Alabama Showdown: Scout Blog
February 27, 2025
The Prep Baseball Alabama Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the Prep Baseball Scouting Staff during the season. Today, we shine the light on standouts from this weekend's PB South Alabama Showdown, a marquee event that helps kick-off the 2025 high school season. It was a loaded field of teams with talented players throughout, many of which are featured inside this article. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and anything else that is notable. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocities, pop times, home to first times and much more.
Also, be sure to check out the pitching leaderboards from the event to see the top fastball velocities from the two days of action in the Birmingham metro area.
+ OF Eric Hines (American Christian, 2025) entered the weekend as one of the hottest hitters in the state, having already blasted four home runs in five games. Listed at 6-foot-3, 224 pounds, the Alabama recruit possesses some of the uncoachable tools that professional scouts covet, making him one of Alabama's top high school draft prospects. Though he had been relatively quiet through much of the weekend, Hines erupted in his final two at-bats, launching a home run to right field followed by a rocket single to left field. The bat speed and impact ability are elite, showcasing his power potential to all fields. Hines is able to manipulate the barrel and change planes, using his physical stature to generate high-level pop. Through 11 games, Hines has already racked up six home runs and is on pace to reach 20 homers by season's end if he keeps swinging with this much power.
