2025 NC High School Previews: Volume V

The 2025 North Carolina high school baseball season is quickly approaching and we’re taking the time to preview the spring ahead by analyzing the top players and programs from each corner of the state.

This offseason, we distributed a preseason questionnaire to North Carolina’s varsity head coaches to help give us a snapshot of the top state contenders, and we’re providing our own analysis on each of the teams’ top prospects and season outlook in these team previews. Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across North Carolina. High School: Ayden-Grifton Chargers

+ The offense will be the key factor to continued success in 2025. There is depth on the mound and the Chargers pride themselves on their defensive work. How many different ways can the offense create runs throughout the year?

BOTTOM LINE

+ The experience on the mound should give the Chargers a chance to find their footing offensively. As the offense creates more scoring opportunities this team will be tough to handle. Expect to see them back in the playoffs.

Conference: Northeastern Costal Conference
2024 Record (Finish): 17-6 (2nd Round)

+ Good run late in 2024. The Knights are replacing a lot of lost pieces. Player development and leadership are keys to the 2025 season

+ There is a ton of talent. How quickly can very skilled players accept a role that promotes the team more than the player.

+ There is experience on the roster but the Vikings will lean on some very talented underclass players to fill key gaps from the ‘24 squad. The talent is in place. How quickly can the performance match the expectations?

+ A deep and talented Jr. Class is expected to help lead this club. There is something about clubs with deep Jr. Classes, as they are not looking ahead and can play with a chip, still considered young.

+ Expectations can be high. Returning 7 arms with action in 2024 is a good start. The lineup has some punch with the chance to score quickly in any innings.

+ A little bit of a rough year in 2024, but the foundation was laid by playing younger players. Can the experience with another year of player development lead to a playoff run?

+ There are high level producers returning. The development of the Tornadoes pitching depth will lead to more wins in 2025.

+ Heavy lean on the SO and JR classes. Several with experience from 2024.

BOTTOM LINE

+ Offensively, the Wildcats will look to their ability to create havoc and scoring options on the basepaths. While missing a lot of innings and at-bats from the 2024 grads, there is still experience in the 2025 roster. The quicker some of the newcomers can acclimate to the Varsity level will dictate the success of the ‘25 season.

State Classification: NCHSAA 2A
Conference: Northeastern Coastal 2A/3A
2024 Record (Finish): 10-14 (lost 1-0 in the first round)

+ A bit of tough year in 2024 for the Redskins, but they return a load of talent and showed glimpses of being a tough. That development will need to carry over and continue to climb in 2025.

+ Roster has a load of seniors. They will need to carry the expectations early, setting a tone as the younger players get used to the Varsity level and speed of the game. Dudes will need to be dudes as depth is curated.
