Top Profiles of 2020: No. 3 Colton Wombles

Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

We continue our countdown of the Top Profiles of 2020 with '23 C Colton Wombles (Russell County) who comes in at No. 3. Wombles, an Auburn commit, is the #3 ranked player in the state 2023 class and he is also ranked #86 nationally.

The 5-8 175 pound catcher is solidly built and does a nice job using his strong lower half at the plate. He is a very disciplined hitter that does a nice job of hunting good pitches to hit. Early in the count he does not get cheated but is also tough to strike out the deeper he gets in counts. There is a ton to like in his offensive capabilities as he creates a ton of power from the right side. Wombles is a very solid defensive catcher with a very quick transfer and plenty of arm strength from behind the dish. The athletic Wombles is also equally adept as on outfielder and tracks balls off the bat very well.

Scouting Report

06/05/19- 5-foot-6, 150-pounds with some compact strength present. Brought a significant amount of energy to the game, and set the tone from the leadoff spot. Right-handed hitter who does not get cheated, and exhibits stronger feel for the strike zone. Stood out in right field where he aggressively hunted all balls, and looked to show off his plus-arm for his age.
