PB Alabama Small Town Showdown: Scout Blog
March 4, 2025
The Prep Baseball Alabama Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the Prep Baseball Scouting Staff during the season. Today, we shine the light on standouts from this weekend's PB Alabama Small Town Showdown, a first-time event that hosts some of the top Class 3A-1A programs in Alabama during the 2025 high school season. It was a loaded field of teams with talented players throughout, many of which are featured inside this article. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and anything else that is notable. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocities, pop times, home to first times and much more.
Also, be sure to check out the pitching leaderboards from the event to see the top fastball velocities from the two days of action at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville, AL.
+ RHP/3B Ethan Walls (Prattville Christian, 2025) delivered arguably his best outing of the spring this past weekend, racking up double-digit strikeouts against a talented lineup. The Chipola CC recruit and top-15 prospect in Alabama’s 2025 class continues to show why he’s one of the state’s premier arms. A hard-throwing right-hander with a fast arm from a ¾ slot, Walls generates heavy arm-side run on his 86-88 mph fastball, topping at 90 mph in this outing. He has previously been up to 94 mph, and nothing he throws stays straight. His delivery is deliberate, gradually building pace and tempo before exploding toward the plate. His breaking ball plays as more of a slurve at 74-75 mph with significant lateral break and the potential to develop into a wipeout offering, with spin rates exceeding 2700 RPM. He showed improved command and feel for both pitches in this start, attacking the zone efficiently. Walls finished with an impressive final line: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 13 K on 91 pitches, with 62 going for strikes (68%). A dominant performance from one of Alabama’s top 2025 arms.
