Commitment Q&A with '27 RHP Isaac Lockwood (Santa Clara University)

2027 RHP ISAAC LOCKWOOD (SANTA CLARA COMMIT)
|
Isaac Lockwood RHP / Mead, CO / 2027Lockwood certainly stood out at this year’s Future Games with his athletic delivery and ability to compete against top bats in the country. Working with a fastball at 86–89 mph, touching 90 (2400+ rpm), he challenged hitters up in the zone and set the tone early in counts. His 77–80 mph slider (~2700 rpm) was a legitimate swing-and-miss pitch, showing sharp bite and late action that consistently kept hitters off balance, while his 81–82 mph changeup (~1400 rpm) provided a developing third look to disrupt timing. Lockwood’s slow heart beat on the mound stood out, allowing him to repeat his delivery and maintain tempo under pressure. Against advanced hitters, his ability to mix pitches and land the slider with confidence made him effective out of a lighter frame that should only continue to get stronger with a potentially high ceiling. Lockwood is now committed to Santa Clara University to continue his athletic and academic career.

OUR Q&A:
Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Isaac: My expectations of the recruiting process was not at all what I was expecting to happen to me. I thought it would be slower and take more time to get to me. What I was looking in a college program was the development program they had inside the university. That was the biggest thing for me to know I would be getting the work I needed to get to the highest level possible.
Prep Baseball: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Isaac: What I liked most about Santa Clara University was the coaching staff being all in on working with me through it all. They had everything I needed to see myself attending the program. It’s a beautiful part of the country from the palm trees to the heat and the ocean.
Prep Baseball: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Isaac: Don’t stop working. It never comes easy. Just as you thought that’s all you can do, it’s not. Keep pushing to strive and get to the dream college you want to be at.
Prep Baseball: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Isaac: Not at all. The distance from home doesn’t concern me at all because I need to know I can be an adult and take care of myself without my family with me. I also really care about the place I want to live, like if I would love stay in that climate but it’s so far from home, then I just have to deal with it.
Prep Baseball: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
Isaac: The recruiting process really started the first day of coaches being able to contact me on August 1st. Got a few calls and then I knew this is real. The school I am committed to didn’t reach out till around middle of August. They saw me play at Future Games in July and loved what they saw and kept coming to tournaments.
Prep Baseball: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?
Isaac: The Prep Baseball showcase that boosted my recruiting was the Future Games. When I first stepped into the facility at LakePoint to see the amount of school attending the showcase, it was mind blowing. It did help that I showcased my talent very well, so schools liked what they saw and reached out.
Prep Baseball: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Isaac: The two others schools that were on my list before the decision was Creighton University and the University of Notre Dame.
Prep Baseball: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
Isaac: I would say the toughest player I faced in Colorado is Jackson Crawford. He was tough to face for me because he is a left-handed batter who has a short & quick swing that can pretty much make contact with any ball you throw at him.
Prep Baseball: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?
Isaac: The tool I would steal from another player in Colorado would be the mental toughness of Jackson Shepherd.
Prep Baseball: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?
Isaac: Another player to keep an eye out for is Cameron Wiley who is a catcher for Mead High School in the 2029 class, ranked 7th in the state.
Prep Baseball: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Isaac: It wasn't till about my Freshman fall that I realized I can compete with very high level players in the country. I’ve always wanted to take my game to the next level, always working day in and day out trying to get to my dream.
Prep Baseball: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
Isaac: My most memorable moment in my baseball career is getting invited my Junior summer to these huge showcases being: Jr. National Showcase, Future Games, and Area Code.
Prep Baseball: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
Isaac: My high school team is very scrappy and can be competitive all the time. We lost a handful of seniors last season, but the players and seniors this season are even better than before. Just this year we have 4 college commits and just about every level. I can see us making it further than the school has ever made it in playoffs, hopefully setting records.
