The 2014 Area Code Games took place last week at in Long Beach, CA. Eight teams were made up of some of the country’s top players and as usual, hundreds of scouts descended upon Long Beach State’s Blair Field to evaluate the game’s next crop of draft prospects. You can catch up on any of the action you missed by reading the daily notebooks and we’ll have more about a couple specific players in the near future.

Below you’ll find a list of 10 players, listed alphabetically, that stood out for their tools and performance. All are members of the 2015 class, except for OF Cameron Blake, and a few have yet to make their verbal commitment to a college program.

Kolby Allard, LHP, San Clemente HS, CA
Allard and Justin Hooper (also on this list) proved to be the top southpaws at the Area Code Games and arguably hold that distinction in the entire 2015 class as well. Allard stands at 6 feet, 165 pounds and pitches with an easy, balanced delivery. He delivers a 90-92 mph fastball from a high three-quarter slot. His curveball is an out pitch, sitting 78-79 with depth and sharp downward break. In his first two innings of work, five of the six outs came via the strikeout and the only blemish was a home run surrendered to RHP/1B Luken Baker (Oak Ridge HS, TX). Allard’s third inning wasn’t as clean—he gave up a run on a wild pitch, three hits and a walk—but escaped with a double play. He finished with three innings pitched, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six. He is verbally committed to UCLA.
