The Rode Show: Triston McKenzie Cruises On Pitch Count

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

It didn’t matter that RHP Triston McKenzie (Royal Palm Beach HS, FL) had a pitch limit of 50 for his start on Wednesday afternoon. Scouts still showed up to get a look. More than a dozen scouts, including at least five scouting directors, found a spot behind the plate to see the skinny Vanderbilt recruit go against a strong team in Lake Brantley HS, FL.

McKenzie breezed through five innings, using just 48 pitches. He struck out five and allowed three baserunners—two hits and a hit batter. Two of those were erased on an interference call and pickoff so he faced just one over the minimum.
