Des Moines, Iowa - As the Prep Baseball Iowa Spring League gets underway, a talented group of players is set to showcase their high-level tools across the diamond. From elite speed and raw power to standout defensive skills and dominant arms, this preview highlights some of the top names to watch this season. Below are a list of players to keep an eye on.

Speed 🏃

Gavin De Jesus SS / OF / Waukee, IA / 2026

Iowa commit

A plus runner (6.5 speed) with the ability to drive the ball into the gaps, showcasing sneaky pop at the plate (103.8 MPH max exit velocity at the 2025 Prep Baseball Upper Midwest Procase).

Wrigley Matthys OF / LHP / Bettendorf, IA / 2025

Kirkwood commit

A consistent hit machine throughout his high school career at Bettendorf HS. Plus runner (6.4 speed) with the ability to drive the baseball to the pull-side gap.

Raw Power 💥

Taitn Gray OF / C / Dallas Center-Grimes, IA / 2025

Oregon commit

The No. 1 ranked prospect in Iowa’s 2025 class with serious draft helium this spring. An above-average athlete with power potential from both sides of the plate, coming off a Super 60 event this past month where he put up a max exit velo of 109.2 MPH.

Kam Jorgensen 1B / 3B / Saydel High School, IA / 2026


A sneaky pick with high-90s exit velocities (98.9 MPH max exit velo at the 2025 Preseason All-State event) and the ability to backspin and loft baseballs.

 

 

Jax Theeler 1B / OF / East High School, IA / 2025

Kirkwood commit

Launched 10 home runs in his junior year at Sioux City East. Possesses well-above-average strength with the ability to drive baseballs out of the park.

Garrett Luett SS / 3B / Underwood, IA / 2026

Iowa commit

The Iowa commit put up video-game numbers for Underwood HS last summer, excelling against top arms in the 2024 spring league.

Cal Jepsen SS / 2B / Sioux City East, IA / 2026

Now fully healthy, Jepsen displayed impressive bat-to-ball skills last spring, notably squaring up 2024 No. 1 Joey Oakie multiple times in game action.

Bryce Pauly 3B / 2B / Davenport North, IA / 2026

Indiana commit

The 2024 Future Games participant and Indiana commit consistently squares up baseballs to all fields, showing flashes of loft power.

Cole Moore RHP / C / Van Meter , IA / 2025

Iowa commit

A steady presence in the low 90s with a heavy fastball he commands for strikes.

Ryan Stedman RHP / SS / West Des Moines Valley, IA / 2026

Iowa commit

Saw a velocity jump at the 2025 Upper Midwest ProCase, reaching the 93 mph range.

Colton Arndt RHP / OF / Ankeny Centennial , IA / 2026

St. Thomas commit

Performed well at the ProCase event, showcasing a steady power fastball with riding life through the zone.

Hunter Minner RHP / 3B / Ankeny High School, IA / 2027

Impressed at the 2025 Iowa Preseason All-State with a large, physical frame and intriguing athleticism for his build.

Brady Andrews RHP / OF / DES MOINES CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, IA / 2026

Creighton commit

A 2026 grad and 2024 Future Games participant with a three-pitch mix. His velocity continues to climb, pairing well with above-average secondary offerings.

Dane Gosselink LHP / 1B / West Des Moines Valley, IA / 2026


Long, loose, and athletic. His Trackman pitch scores are elite, with plus life through the zone.

Kaleb LaFavor RHP / 1B / Sioux City Heelan, IA / 2026


Has begun to develop physically, leading to a steady velocity increase. Features a loose, live arm with plus projection and feel for secondary pitches in the zone.

Tatem Telfer LHP / 1B / Mid-Prairie High School, IA / 2025

Arkansas State commit

The left-hander features a low-90s power fastball paired with a sharp breaking ball that has above-average depth.

Infield Defense 🧤

Grant Sorensen SS / 2B / Waukee, IA / 2025

South Dakota State commit

The South Dakota State commit is as steady as they come at SS, displaying above-average tools and consistency with long-term projection at a premium position.

Lincoln Norris SS / RHP / Knoxville , IA / 2027

A smooth, athletic defender who doesn’t play overly flashy but makes both routine and highlight-reel plays.

Reed Strohmeyer SS / SS / Dubuque Hempstead, IA / 2025

Nebraska commit

The Nebraska commit oozes potential with his long 6’3” frame, above-average arm, soft hands, and athletic movement across the infield.

The DMACC commit remains somewhat under the radar but has shown the ability to hit and patrol the outfield effectively.

Tate Moulton RHP / OF / Grand View Christian, IA / 2026

An all-around above-average skill set on both sides of the ball. A fun player to follow this spring.

Catcher Defense 🧤

Milo Kelley C / 1B / Pleasant Valley, IA / 2025

Iowa commit

The Iowa commit is as close to pro-ready as you’ll find in the state. An above-average athlete with elite receiving and catch-and-throw skills.

Tate Slagle SS / RHP / Algona High School, IA / 2025

Iowa commit

A recent convert to catcher, Slagle is a jack-of-all-trades on the field. Uses his athleticism and power arm effectively behind the plate. 

Jacob Foudree SS / C / Valley High School, IA / 2025

Ellsworth commit

A sleeper pick. Athletic catchers are hard to find, and Foudree moves well with flexibility and quality actions behind the dish.
