Quick Hits: Evansville Preseason ID
March 19, 2025
One of our final stops on our Preseason ID tour this winter took us to Evansville, Indiana on Sunday, March 9th for the annual Evansville Preseason ID. The event was held at GRIT, where a handful of prospects showcased their abilities in front of our staff. Find standouts written up below.

Winners
+ '27 INF/C Crewe Hasenour (Gibson Southern) was the highest ranked prospect in attendance, currently a top 30 player in Indiana's 2027 class. There is big gamer tendencies here from the compact, strong, 5-foot-9, 185 pounder. His best tool is his arm, and he showed it off across the diamond (up to 88) and from the crouch (up to 81) with pops into the 1.9s. His hit tool is also an above average tool - he turns a tight, upward barrel that he has feel to manipulate. His exits reached 93-plus, and his bat speed is above average for the class as well. His stats this spring will be followed closely, and his best profile may be behind the dish with the frame and toolset considered. He has solid actions on the dirt, though the average foot speed (7.21) he holds likely pushes him to 2B/3B.

Stocky, 5-foot-9, 185 pounder.
Lots of barrel feel w bat speed to go with it. Arm is best tool, intriguing defensive versatility.

+ '26 3B/RHP Brady Anderson (Vincennes Lincoln) will be a big riser in our next update, continuing to show awesome development in his overall game. His exits have jumped in a 5+ mph fashion compared to his sophomore season, now 100.9 mph off the bat with a sweet left-handed swing, and he shows feel to control his forward move with a toe tap stride. He cut almost 0.3 off of his 60-yard dash this winter, now a solid average tool as he turned in a 7.09 at this event. The foot speed elevating stems from really solid body comp improvements and his frame is now a leaner, more-athletic looking, 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. He has elevated on the mound, as well, with a +4 mph velocity jump compared to just December. Anderson pitched at 86-87.5 on a fastball with slight arm-side run, and he showed three usable offspeed pitches, including: a 75-76 mph slider that plays with big sweep, a low-80s sinking change, and a big, upper-60s curveball with depth.
‘26 3B/RHP Brady Anderson (@b_anderson19) continues to trend up on both sides.

Short lefty stroke w power developing, 100-plus exit velocity.

+ I was really impressed with my first look at '26 MIF Levi Lester (Barr-Reeve). He feels like a throwback prospect in some ways, a legion kid who has shined for the 2024 1A State Champions in his first two varsity springs, including a 1A All-State selection as a SS in his sophomore campaign. He showed well in batting practice with a short, simple, repeatable left-handed stroke that features very little movement throughout. The swing is geared towards LD contact with exit reaching 102-plus. He is a fringy runner with a broad-shouldered, 6-foot, 190 lb frame and average arm strength in total. His actions on the dirt are strong and the glove is his next-best tool behind the left-handed bat.

+ '25 OF/1B/LHP Ryne Wilhite (Princeton) showed well in all facets and looks primed for a big senior season. The stocky, 6-foot, 190 pound Spalding recruit got off aggressive, well-sequenced, left-handed hacks with near-99 mph exits and present gap2gap strength. The bat is the carrying tool and there is a real chance to hit here. He is a solid defender in the corner OF and at 1B, with playable feet and hands, and he shows a tick above average arm strength at both positions.

+ '28 RHP Rhys Sorgius (Gibson Southern) is a freshman arm that I am bullish on coming out of this event. The immature-looking, projectable, 6-foot-1, 140 pound frame should pack on strength in a hurry and produced a 78-80 mph fastball at this event, a number that should skyrocket with strength gains. His low-70s breaking ball has big upside, while his mid-70s change plays off the fastball and is sold with fastball arm speed. The movement patterns are what I like best here - he gets solid hip-to-shoulder within a balanced, cross-strided operation while the arm works loose & free to its 3/4 slot.

Strength gains will pay dividends, frosh follow, 83 from the OF. #EvansvilleID25 pic.twitter.com/jM9dBerf32
+ '27 LHP Brogan McClellan (Gibson Southern) is our final standout, a reliable southpaw we've seen plenty of thus far. He stands at an athletic, 6-foot, 170 pounds and hangs his hat on strong control with four well-shaped pitches in the arsenal. His 79-81 mph fastball plays with arm-side run, and he can take a little off of it and sink it, as well. The 68-71 mph slider shows sweeper shape and tunnels off the fastball, while his mid-70s change plays with fade and also works off the fastball tunnel. The overall feel here grades at an above average to better clip for the class, and velocity jumps will likely come as the body matures into more strength/explosiveness.
