For the second time in the last three weeks, North Carolina has snagged a top 2020 from the Midwest. On Friday afternoon, RHP/OF Max Carlson (Burnsville HS, NC) announced his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels. In late August, SS/RHP Mac Horvath (Rochester Century HS, MN) also committed to North Carolina. Like Horvath, Carlson was a big standout at the Future Games last month. He ran his fastball up to 91 mph with arm-side run while showing advanced feel for a changeup at 73-77. Carlson also has bloodlines as the younger brother of RHP Sam Carlson, who was the MVP of the 2015 Future Games and a second-round pick of the Seattle Mariners this year.
