Naturals Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Friday, February 7th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to the Bud Dome in St. Louis, MO to host the annual Naturals Scout Day. This event, featured 49 players from the St. Louis Naturals program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 6 names that popped to our staff from Fridays trip to St. Louis.

QUICK HITS

+ Perhaps the biggest winner on the day, RHP/INF Jack Dalton (Lutheran South, 2027) was a two-way standout in this look. The sophomore is as physical as they come standing at a long-levered 6-foot-4, 190-pounds. At the plate Dalton consistently lined balls to left center field, averaging 87.3 mph per batted ball, barreling his best ball 333 feet at 93.8 mph. He showed off his arm strength from the outfield, firing a 90 mph bullet home for the top mark on the day. However, it was on the mound where Dalton shined the brightest, showing the potential to be a power arm, running his fastball up 87.9 mph, consistently sitting 85-87 mph thanks to a loose, whippy arm action. Off of that he tunneled a low spin changeup at 72-73 mph while showing advanced feel to land both his sweeping slider and curveball for strikes at 74-75 mph and 71-72 mph respectively. Dalton will be a name to keep an eye in the ‘27 class.

+ Another arm to note from Friday’s trip to the Bud Dome is LHP Kaleb Owens (Oakville, 2026). An easy mover on the mound at a lean 6-foot, 155-pounds, Owens showed complete command for his four pitch mix with plenty more in the tank as he continues to add size and strength. The lefty threw his fastball with slight cut at 81-82 mph paired with a tumbling, low spin changeup at 77-78 with arm side fade. The junior also spun two distinct breaking balls with a horizontal moving slider at 73-75 mph and a vertical breaking curveball at 71-72 mph.

+ 1B Vince Dalton (Lutheran South, 2026) was consistently on the barrel throughout his round of batting practice, putting together the loudest round on the day. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound lefty generated effortless power and bat speed from the left side of the plate, averaging 90.5 mph per batted ball, working primarily to the pull side of the field. His best barrel traveled 344 feet at 100.9 mph per TrackMan. With power that has shown up in game, Dalton has the look to be a middle of the order power bat as he continues to polish his game.

+ One of the youngest players at the event, RHP/OF Connor Basinski (Columbia, 2028; IL) put together one of the most complete performances of the day on both sides of the ball, emerging as a name to know in the 2028 class. Physically advanced at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, Basinski got the day started with an impressive showing on the mound. The freshman effortlessly ran his fastball up to 85.5 mph, second best on the day, with much more to come. He also showed advanced feel to land his changeup/slider mix for strikes consistently. At the plate, the righty used a quick, rotational swing to line balls to the pullside throughout his round, posting a peak exit velocity of 90.5 mph. Basiniski finished up the day by firing a 85 mph bullet from the outfield.

+ OF/RHP Connar Lucas (St. Louis University) and INF/RHP Max Jones (Seckman) are two name-to-know physical bats from the 2027 class that posted 90+ mph exit velocities in this look. Lucas also posted a 87 mph outfield velocity while Jones posted a 85 mph mark on the infield.
