Q&A with Missouri Commit Carter Martin

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

RHP Carter Martin (Warrenton)

We recently had the chance to talk to Martin about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.

Our Q&A

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Carter: The main thing I looked for in a program was the ability to play the best competition for the most development for myself.

PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

C: The thing I like the most about Mizzou is the coaching staff. They always made me feel like family, which is all I could ask for.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

C: The best advice I can give is to get better everyday. The little things matter, getting better everyday will guide you to the right path for you and your future.

PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

C: Yes and no, Mizzou being close to home has always made me a Mizzou fan which gives a little bit of bias. But if they were to be in a different state it wouldn’t make me change anything about my decision.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

C: My recruiting process skyrocketed on August 1st. Mizzou first saw me play in Indiana for a showcase game.

PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?

C: Yes, the Future Games is the best event in the country no doubt about it. The guys from PBR made you feel comfortable and gave you the best opportunity you could possibly ask for.

PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

C: Other schools that were on my short list included Creighton, Lindenwood, and NC State.

PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

C: Max Partney no doubt. The kid just doesn’t get out against me, definitely has the most confidence I’ve seen in a hitter.

PB: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?

C: If I could steal any quality I would steal Ryan Dobratz’s size.

PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

C: Keegan Lehmkuhl is an impressive player. He has made big improvements since starting and playing a role as a freshman, and isn’t slowing down any time soon.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

C: After my sophomore school ball season. I would always compare myself to other guys like Camden Lohman and see where we were at together, I always thought we had the same type of pitching style, and used it well.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

C: My most memorable moment is winning conference the 2nd year in a row. First time in school history, and we had a lot of people around us doubting that we could do it again. It was just a great feeling to prove them wrong.

PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

C: I feel like my high school team is gonna have a more rebuilding aspect to our team. We lost a lot from last year and got some young guys that will have to step up. Overall I think we’re gonna be pretty good and hopefully get that 3 peat.
