Recruits Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Thursday, February 13th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to the Practice Factory in St. Louis, MO to host the annual Recruits Scout Day. This event, featured 15 pitchers from the Recruits program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 4 arms that popped to our staff from Thursday's trip to St. Louis.

QUICK HITS

+ Ranked as the No. 12 player in the state’s 2026 class, LHP Grant Mehrhoff (Christian Brothers College; Louisville commit) delivered an impressive bullpen session on Thursday, showcasing full command of his three-pitch mix. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound southpaw worked efficiently, sitting comfortably at 86-90 mph while generating an average of 14.3 inches of induced vertical break, allowing his fastball to carry through the zone. His fluid delivery and effortless operation hint at even more velocity to come. Complementing his fastball, Mehrhoff consistently landed his slider for strikes at 72-76 mph and effectively turned over a low-spin changeup at 77-81 mph.

+ RHP/INF Landon Matthews (Lafayette, 2026) was another standout arm in this look. Building on a strong sophomore campaign with the Lancers last spring, the talented junior appears to have taken another step forward, running his fastball up to 87.1 mph while sitting comfortably at 85-86 mph. He showcased full command of a sharp, swing-and-miss slider at 81-82 mph, generating tight spin and late bite. His changeup played with depth at 79-80 mph, effectively mirroring his fastball arm speed to keep hitters off balance.

+ One of the top uncommitted prospects in the state, INF/RHP Anden Hyde (Fort Zumwalt West, 2026) showed intriguing upside on the mound during Thursday’s look in St. Louis. Though best known for his bat, Hyde impressed with a fastball that sat 86-89 mph, topping out at 89.5 mph while spinning at 2,500+ RPM. His heater featured late ride and carry through the top of the zone. Complementing it, Hyde’s 2,500+ RPM curveball showed sharp depth and tunneled effectively off his fastball at 72-76 mph, flashing swing-and-miss potential with up to -21.2 inches of horizontal movement. He rounded out his arsenal with a fading changeup at 79-82 mph.

+ Built with an imposing 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame, CIF/RHP Jon Calcaterra (Lindbergh, 2028) continues to impress with each outing. The physically advanced freshman showed a significant uptick in velocity since our last look, topping out at 86.1 mph while working consistently at 82-85 mph. He also demonstrated an advanced feel for his secondary offerings, landing a curveball at 68-72 mph with sharp, sweeping action (-19.4 inches of horizontal movement) and effectively turning over a low-spin changeup at 73-75 mph, generating 18.3 inches of arm-side fade.
