North Mississippi Preseason ID: Quick Hits

HERNANDO, MS — The North Mississippi Preseason ID was held on Sunday, January 11th at The Gatorade Fieldhouse (Elevate) in Hernando, MS that featured top talent from the 2026-2030 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan and VALD Performance tech, while pitchers threw in a bullpen setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.

Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

Evan Killough C / RHP / Kossuth, MS / 2030

Stands out as one of the more advanced prospects in his class. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete shows a mature, well-rounded skill set for his age and profiles as a legitimate two-way prospect. At the plate, he features a level, efficient swing path with present strength and clear projection for more power as he continues to develop physically. His impact ability was evident as he recorded the top exit velocity at the event at 96.5 mph. On the mound, Killough also impressed, posting the top fastball velocity of the event at 84 mph, reinforcing his high ceiling on both sides of the ball.

Titus Hassell OF / LHP / Center Hill High School, MS / 2028

Is a lean, athletic young prospect with an intriguing skill set and plenty of room to develop. He shows natural feel for the barrel with very good hands at the plate, allowing him to consistently find quality contact. Hassell recorded an exit velocity of 89.1 mph, a solid mark that should continue to climb as he adds strength and refines his approach. With his athleticism and developing tools, he is definitely a player to follow closely as his progression continues.

Andrew Shell RHP / 1B / Regents School Of Oxford, MS / 2029

Is a high-upside arm with a maturing frame at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds that immediately stands out. He shows a synced-up, repeatable delivery on the mound and already works his fastball up to 78 mph, with clear indicators that significantly more velocity is coming as he continues to develop. With his size, mechanics, and projection, Shell is the type of arm you bet on long term and truly an arm to wish on.

Judson Oakley OF / 3B / DeSoto Central, MS / 2026

Is an uncommitted right-handed hitter who continues to stand out for his offensive skill set. Listed at 5-foot-8, 175 pounds, Oakley shows a quick bat and athletic movement patterns. He features a compact, efficient swing built for a line-drive approach and consistently uses the entire field. His offensive impact was highlighted by a 90 mph exit velocity, making him a reliable, high-contact offensive profile with value. 

Patrick Southerland LHP / OF / Warren Central, MS / 2029

Is an impressive young prospect with plenty of runway ahead of him. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound freshman has a lean, projectable frame and already shows some present pull-side pop at the plate, highlighted by a loud 96.4 mph exit velocity. On the mound, he displays a solid foundational skill set as a left-handed pitcher with clear upside as his arm continues to mature. Still early in his development, Southerland is a young two-way talent and an arm to keep a close eye on moving forward.

Jevan Hughes C / 3B / Itawamba Agricultural, MS / 2028

Brings a strong, durable presence to the field at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. He shows present pull-side power with occasional loft in his swing path, producing a 95 mph exit velocity that reflects his strength at the plate. Behind the plate, Hughes is a developing catcher with a solid foundation and arm strength, recording a 74 mph catcher velocity. As his footwork continues to improve and the defensive side sharpens, his overall profile projects to take another step forward.

Hogan Overby SS / 2B / Oxford, MS / 2027

Is a compact, athletic infielder with a promising all-around foundation. Listed at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, he features a pull-side approach that produces plenty of hard line drives, highlighted by an 89 mph exit velocity. Defensively, Overby shows a solid infield foundation with reliable actions and feel for the position. With continued physical development, he offers clear next-level upside as his game continues to mature. 

Gavin Lockhart SS / 2B / DeSoto Central, MS / 2026

Is a lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect with a well-rounded skill set. At the plate, he features a line-drive approach and consistently works the middle of the field, posting an 88 mph exit velocity. Defensively, Lockhart shows arm strength that plays, reaching up to 86 mph from the outfield. He also flashes some upside on the mound, adding to his overall value as a versatile player with room to continue developing.

Brody McCullough OF / 1B / Oxford High School, MS / 2027

Offers an intriguing blend of projection and present skill. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound infielder has a projectable frame and generates plenty of leverage in his swing, with developing power that shows up to the middle and pull side and occasional loft. He recorded a 91 mph exit velocity, with offensive upside. Defensively, McCullough shows a solid infield skill set, making him a well-rounded prospect with continued room to grow.
